Harry L. Haynes

Harry L. Haynes, 92, of 610 W. Whitehall Rd., State College, PA formerly of Sizerville Rd., Emporium died at Juniper Village at Brookline Wellspring Memory Care, State College, PA on Saturday morning (October 9, 2021). He was born November 4, 1928 in Keating Summit, PA a son of the late Chester A. and Ethel E. Pelchy Haynes. On November 8, 1947 in First Baptist Church, Emporium he married the late Ethel L. LaPolt, who shared his life for 67 years.

Mr. Haynes was a 20-year Air Force veteran, traveling the United States and world during military service. However, his heart never left the green hills of Pennsylvania and was happiest upon returning to the Emporium-area. He became a letter carrier, his "best job ever." His caring, outgoing personality endeared him to the people on his postal route. He loved exploring the outdoors, and hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was known for tending his massive garden and freely sharing the abundant produce.

For many years, he taught Sunday School and led Bible Study as a member of the First Baptist Church. He held office in the Odin Grange. He served on the board of the Portage Township Cemetery Association for many years.

Harry is survived by two daughters, Jane (Michael) Pierzga, Pennsylvania Furnace and Judy (Edward) Langsdale, Bedford, TX; four grandchildren: Nikki Foxx, Bryan Pierzga, Lindsay Langsdale & Jordan Lansdale; two sisters, Florence Rossman, Coudersport and Eleanor Sebring, Colorado Springs, CO.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Lester & Norman Haynes; five sisters, Rachael Boyer, Fannie Weaver, Jennie Ludwig, Vernice Berton and Dorothy Shunk.
