Fire Department to the Rescue

How do you get a cat out of a tree? Call your local fire department!
This is exactly what happened on April 29. For two days a cat had been in a tree and the owner was unable to coax it down. The fire department arrived and used the bucket truck to reach towards the cat. At the last minute the cat fell out of the tree. It was unharmed and the owner was there to claim it.

DCNR Seeking Proposals For Skiing, Four-Season Concessionaire At Denton Hill State Park In Potter County

It would be wonderful to have this in operation again!

DCNR State Parks Director John Hallas today announced the agency is seeking proposals to operate a downhill ski and four-season recreation center at Denton Hill State Park in Potter County. This is great news for area residents as the park's downhill ski slope has been closed since the winter of 2014. A new master plan for the park includes infrastructure improvements to the ski area and positions a concessionaire to grow recreational opportunities in all four seasons. DCNR is committing $10 million in capital improvements to support the implementation of a master plan for the park. Read more here.

Sylvan Heritage Council & Emporium Borough Spruce Up Landscaped Areas

click on photos to enlarge view

Volunteers from the Sylvan Heritage Council and the Emporium Borough worked together today to freshen up several of the landscaped areas in town.

The Welcome to Emporium signs at the east and west end of town were one of the first projects the Sylvan Heritage Council completed.  The East end triangle at the intersection of Routes 120 & 155 was  completed in November of 2012.  The Erie triangle was completed with the cooperation of the Straub insurance agency.
The Sylvan Heritage Council has  adopted these areas and continues to maintain them.

A big thank you to SHC members Chrissy Slusarick, Lori Reed and Karen Jiang!
The landscaping looks great.
Kudos to the Emporium Borough for their assistance.
By working together we continue make our town a better place!
