Notice from the Cameron County Commissioners
Did you pay your Per Capita/Occupational (Personal) Taxes Yet?
The Cameron County Commissioners have received many questions regarding the Per Capita/Occupation Tax bills as well as the collection notices many have received with the imposed $75.00 late fee.
Please be aware, no resident of Cameron County is exempt from paying this tax unless they are exonerated by the Cameron County Assessment Office.
The requirement for exoneration is one of the following; Income, Full Time Student or Full Time Military Status. The Per Capita/Occupation Tax is due to your tax collector by December 31st. If this tax is not paid to your tax collector by December 31st, the bill becomes delinquent and the names of the delinquent taxpayers are sent to a collection agency.
If a family member passes away, it is important to contact your local tax collector so that they are removed from the taxing list. If your income or status changes, it is your responsibility to contact your local tax collector so that those changes can be reviewed.
