House Decorating Winners

House Decorating Winners

L&M Lumber sponsored the Cameron County House Decorating Contest, and the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce staff confirm voting hit an all time high. “We had more than 200 individual votes for the contest,” says chamber director Tina Johns Solak. People spent time driving around the county viewing ten properties. Voting could be by paper ballots or online at the chamber website. Johns Solak says most votes came in from the web site.

Top vote getter was the home of Mark Farren at 374 Meadow Road. Second place awarded to Roger and Dixie Schweikart at 1794 Gardeau Road and third place the home of Audra and Jody Reid at 109 West Fourth Street. The three owners receiving chamber bucks purchased by Mike and Linda Songer from L&M Lumber.

Eva J. Andrus

Eva J. Andrus, 104, of 222 Moore Hill Road, Emporium, PA passed away at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA on Saturday night (December 25, 2021). She was born September 29, 1917 in Tyler, PA a daughter of the late John and Mary Scanish Silinsky. She married the late George D. Andrus who passed away in 1975.

Eva's early life was spent on a poultry farm in Bell Hollow, a remote area of Tyler, PA. The rigors of the time and lifestyle developed a work ethic early in her life. During her teenage years, the family relocated to a more civilized area, Weedville PA, where her parents resided until their passing in the 1950's. During that period, Eva met her husband to be, married, and bought the house at 222 Moore Hill Rd. This was the place that all of her children were born into and raised, and the place that Eva lived the rest of her life up until the last few weeks (A total of more than 76 years).

Eva was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church for most of those 76 years and enjoyed many years singing in the choir. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and the Emporium Senior Center. Throughout her life, she was a devoted mother, and enjoyed any and all activities with her immediate and extended families. A highlight was always her annual birthday bash for the last 24 years held at the family camp in Benezette. As perhaps an indication of the people she touched over the years, her 100th anniversary party had an attendance of over 150. Although she slowed down a bit the last few years, she still retained a zest for life and love of family. Her family is left with a hole that could never be filled, but a consolation is that she has rejoined her husband whom she has missed for over 46 years.

She is survived by four sons, John D. (Charlotte) Andrus, Emporium; Ronald E. (Pamela) Andrus, Gaines, PA; David E. (Joanne) Andrus, Emporium; George T. Andrus, Emporium; Richard A. Andrus, Emporium; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren; sister, Helen Wolfel, Emporium.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son, William Andrus; two sisters, Anna and Tillie; three brothers, Steve, Mike and John.

Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. 4th St., Emporium, PA on Wednesday from 4-6 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic Church, 235 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Thursday (December 30, 2021) at 10:30 AM with Rev. Paul S. Siebert, Pastor, as Celebrant.

Burial will be in the Moore Hill Cemetery, Emporium, PA

Guy and Mary Felt Manor Update

Guy and Mary Felt Manor

Dear families/visitors, we are thrilled to have everyone back in the building visiting. Everyone has been compliant with our registration process and procedures. Just a few housekeeping items that have come up: -Please try to avoid coming in to visit during our lunch time which is 11:30am-12:30pm. Residents do not want to miss a visit, so we end up holding their lunch and reheating it up again. -Please make sure your mask is up at all times. With the increase in cough/colds/flu symptoms/ as well as COVID, we are doing our best to keep our residents safe. -After being checked in, please go to the atrium and wait for a staff member to bring your loved one to the designated area. Do not leave the designated visiting area and roam the halls. We are trying to have the least amount of exposure as possible.
Thank you for your continued support! Kim Jones, NHA
