Caldwell Fireworks Update

Update on the fireworks at the Caldwell Corporation parking lot: After discussing whether or not we should pursue a firework display again, we have come to the conclusion to cancel the fireworks at our parking lot indefinitely.
I love doing them and setting them off, but every year grows bigger crowds and more fireworks.
The space we have is not adequate to do this safely without risk of harm or damage.
It is always a fear someone or something will be at the wrong end of us having fun.
With that being said, I announce my early retirement from doing anymore firework shows from our parking lot.
HOWEVER, if the stars align and I was asked nicely, I may consider doing something of the sort for someone else somewhere else, but they will no longer be done in our parking lot.
Thank you for the past 3 years. They were a "blast."

Greetings Community Members,

Last year, the Cameron County Project hosted a “Super Saturday” event in response to interviews with residents who fondly reminisced on the county’s famous “Super Weekend” and longed for some kind of revival. Due to the positive feedback and success of the 2021 event, planning for 2022 has begun.

We welcome the participation and/or contribution from merchants, restaurants, clubs, and other organizations. We will be making space and doing advertising for all involved, again this year. There are plenty of ways to get involved in this community-wide celebration, so if you have something in mind, let us know by May 27th!

Emporium Legion Baseball Update

Emporium Legion Baseball

There will be no Legion Baseball for Emporium this year and unfortunately it doesn’t look good for the future of baseball in Emporium. It should be noted that Saul Solveson has put in every effort for this year (and every other year). He has reached out to every surrounding town trying to recruit players. He’s tried to create a practice schedule that entices participation as well as adding incentives. We also work very hard to find the funding to maintain this team which is a lot and sometimes comes out of our own pockets. THANK YOU to the businesses and organizations that do support Emporium Legion Baseball and to the parents and players who have shown dedication

Cameron County Listed for Gypsy Moth Spraying

Spray area for Cameron County

The Pennsylvania Game Commission announced plans to spray more than 62,000 acres of state game lands this spring to protect against spongy moths, previously known by the common name gypsy moth.
The spraying is likely to occur this month on 27 different state game lands, including nearly 1,000 acres in State Game Lands (SGL) 321 in Clinton County, as well as other northcentral region game lands in Centre, Lycoming, Potter, Cameron, Elk, McKean and Tioga counties.

Most of the blocks of forest to be sprayed on game lands can be treated within one day, often within only a few hours. The insecticide to be used is Mimic 2LV, the active ingredient of which is tebufenozide. This agent generally is considered safe to humans. As with any chemical, it may cause eye or skin irritation if exposed, and it is recommended to wash any affected area if irritation occurs.

More information on spongy moths and the Game Commission’s spraying program, including a map updating the status of this year’s spraying, is available on the commission’s interactive web page.

Rotary Club News

The Emporium Rotary Day Cruise was an opportunity for every 9th grade student from CCHS and Austin to learn about entrepreneurship. Thanks to the CEC, Emporium Hardwoods, Embassy, DCNR, CDH Designs, Cameron County Mercantile, Reid's Napa, David Woodring's Photography and Emporium Nutrition for providing interesting information on running your own business. The Emporium Rotary Club enjoyed hosting this group of students during the fun and informative day.

Nate Sestina (right) was the guest of Bari Poorman (left) and spoke to the Emporium Rotary club and various guests about his up and coming professional basketball career. He also spoke about how thankful he is for his parents and for Cameron County and how he spends as much time as he can trying to give back to the people and the community that shaped him.
