John J. Austin

 

John J. Austin, 63, of Harrison St., Port Allegany, PA passed away unexpectedly Sunday (Dec. 25, 2022) in UPMC Cole, Coudersport.

Born July 1, 1959, in Olean, NY, he was a son of Robert E. and Mary Oliver Austin. On Jan. 14, 2012, in Port Allegany, he married Terrie M. Milne, who survives.

A lifetime resident of the area, John was a graduate of Otto-Eldred High School, class of 1979.

He was employed with Ardagh Group, Port Allegany, as a machine operator, retiring in 2021, after 30 years of service.

John attended the Birch Grove Mennonite Church, Port Allegany.

He enjoyed his time as a stock car driver, driving at the Bradford Speedway. He was an avid snowmobiler, and member of the West End Snowmobile Club. He also did welding for others and had a snow plowing business in the winter. He was a very social person and enjoyed talking to everyone. He will be missed by many.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Terrie, are two sons, John M. (Misty) Austin of Emporium, Henry A. Troupe of Port Allegany; two daughters, Samantha J. (Jeff) Fry of Austin, PA, and Hannah M. Troupe of Port Allegany; four granddaughters, two grandsons; and a great granddaughter; a brother, Art Buck of Bradford; three sisters, Deb (Garry) Sherwood of Eldred, Marie (Russ Safran) Ober of Bradford, and Tina (Paul) Freer of Smethport; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert E. Austin.

Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. Friday (Dec. 30, 2022) in the Birch Grove Mennonite Church, Port Allegany, where a memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. with Rev. Dale Detweiler, pastor, officiating.

Memorials can be made to the Bradford Speedway, or choice of the donor.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
