π§West Creek Abandoned Mine Treatment System Update‼
If you’ve been out on the West Creek Rail Trail lately, you might’ve noticed some big changes π
One of the old coal refuse piles has been leveled, treated with lime, topped with soil, and is getting ready for new vegetation!
This will help stop leftover mining material from adding acidity to the water. π±✅
PLUS — One of the system’s key features has just been constructed: an Anoxic Limestone Drain (ALD)!
It may not look like much on the surface, but underground, it’s doing serious work πͺ
π§
Acidic water flows through buried limestone
❌ No oxygen = no iron buildup
✅ More effective treatment!
Continue to be on the lookout for more construction updates!
