Steve was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, known for his generous spirit, quick wit, and dedication to helping others. Steve was born on October 6, 1941, in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, and raised in Emporium, Pennsylvania, as an only child.
After graduating high school, Steve attended school in Williamsport, where he earned his degree in tool and die-making, beginning a career in precision craftsmanship. Steve worked for 30 years as a tool and die maker at Kodak in Rochester, New York, contributing to innovative projects, including work on the Hubble Telescope in Flagstaff, Arizona.
After retiring from Kodak, he continued serving his community by driving a school bus in Rochester for seven years. During his retirement, Steve turned his willingness to help others into a second career, caring for lawns, removing snow, and lending a hand wherever he was needed. Steve’s life was forever changed during the two years he spent at Teen Challenge, where he traveled with their choir. This transformative experience deepened his relationship with the Lord and ignited his passion for sharing the Gospel. Steve’s faith became his foundation, and his love for the Lord shone brightly in every interaction.
Steve and Beverly’s love story began at a 4th of July BBQ in Pennsylvania. They married on September 2, 1988, and spent 15 years in Rochester, New York, before moving to Cottonwood in 2003. Together, they shared a rich life filled with adventures and quiet moments. An avid motorcyclist, Steve loved riding his Harley, often taking scenic rides through the countryside with Beverly and stopping for lunch along the way. They enjoyed playing Euchre with friends and made countless memories of visiting places like the Grand Canyon and Alaska.
Steve was also a devoted golfer, known for his competitive spirit and the friendships he built while playing weekly with friends in Cottonwood. Steve was a proud greeter and usher at church for many years, welcoming everyone with a warm smile. His personality was larger than life—he could always make people laugh with his quick wit and favorite sayings like “You think!?”, “Are you nuts?”, or “Is that right?” Every phone call ended with his heartfelt words, “God bless you.” Steve also enjoyed watching Westerns and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Above all, Steve’s faith in the Lord was his guiding light. He wanted all who knew him to know that he had gone home to be with the Lord and hoped to see them there one day. Steve encouraged everyone to find hope through faith, peace through prayer, and life through Jesus Christ.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Beverly, his son, Nick, and his many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Steve’s kindness, humor, and unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and community will forever be remembered.
His legacy of love and faith lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
A personal note-
Steve Malizia was the son of Nick Malizia and Peg Peterson Pye of Emporium.
Grandparents were of Pietro "Pete" Malizia and Angelina Roberto of Emporium
He is also survived by his Aunt Edith Malizia Grandits of Buffalo New York, and many of our cousins on both sides of his family.
Steve graduated from CCHS, Class of 1961
Goodness I remember good looking Steve!! He was such a smart aleck. He was always smarting off!! So glad to read how his life turned out!!!
