THE SINNEMAHONING WATERSHED ASSOCIATION TREATS INVASIVE TREE POPULATION
Through grant funding provided by Berkshire Hathaway Energy in partnership with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy the Sinnemahoning Watershed Association has treated 5 acres of invasive Tree of Heaven trees near the Cameron / Clinton County line along route 120.
This is one of only a few populations of Tree of Heaven known in Cameron County and is the primary host species for the invasive Spotted Lanternfly.
The Spotted Lanternfly or SLF, is an invasive planthopper native to Asia first discovered in PA in Berks County in 2014. SLF feeds on sap from a myriad of plants but has a strong preference for plants important to PA's economy including grapevines, maples, black walnut, birch and willow. SLF's feeding damage stresses and can even kill plants.
By controlling the Tree of Heaven tree populations, we can help keep the damaging SLF out of our gardens and forests.
