Sizerville State Park Environmental Education Programs Labor Day Weekend 2026

 Program Title: Cooking Breakfast in a Dutch Oven – Guest Presenters 

Date: Saturday, September 5 th Time: 3:00 PM 

Location: Pavilion 5

 Description: Join John & Jan Halter for a Dutch Oven Cooking 101 course at Sizerville State Park! Come get some instructions, some breakfast recipes, and sample some food prepared during the program. See the cooking set up, learn about the history of Dutch ovens, and find out how to use and care for your equipment.

Program Title: The Royal Bird of Prey 

Date: Saturday, September 5 th Time: 8:00 PM 

Location: Campground Amphitheater 

Description: Come out and join the park educator for a program that will go over all kinds of facts about Bald Eagles!  Habitat, diet, fun facts, population, and history will be some of the topics up for discussion.  Short program followed by a movie—feel free to bring snacks and a drink! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Program Title: Songbird Banding – Guest Presenters 

Date: Sunday, September 6 th Time: 9:00 AM 

Location: Maintenance Division 

Description: Join experienced bird bander, David Hauber and his wife, Fay, as they attempt to band common songbirds right here in Sizerville State Park!  We will have a short introduction on bird banding followed by live demonstrations of David banding the birds right in front of us. In the event of no birds being caught, there will be a discussion on the equipment required for banding and why this is important.  Closed toe shoes and long pants are recommended due to the program taking place in high grass/shrub areas. Feel free to bring a water bottle, bug spray, and binoculars!

Program Title: Nature Craft & Story 

Date: Sunday, September 6 th Time: 2:00 PM 

Location: Environmental Learning Center Description: Come down to the ELC and join the park educator for a short story followed by a make and take craft. This week’s topic will be turkeys! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Program Title: Splish Splash Bash 

Date: Monday, September 7 th Time: 11:00 AM 

Location: Pool Deck Description: Join the park educator for a fun, water-themed program since this is the closing day for the pool. Stop by to test your fishing skills and learn something about our local aquatic critters. Come join us as we close the 2026 pool season! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
