🌕🌑 LOOK UP!
A Partial Lunar Eclipse Is Coming to Cameron County! 🌑🌕

On the night of Thursday, August 27 into Friday, August 28, the skies over Cameron County will offer a spectacular celestial show — a partial lunar eclipse! 🌙
Best viewing times in our area:
10:33 PM — The partial eclipse begins, as Earth's dark shadow begins moving across the Moon.
12:12 AM — Maximum eclipse! This is the best time to be outside, when approximately 93% of the Moon will be within Earth's darkest shadow.
1:51 AM — The partial eclipse ends.

The Moon will continue through the lighter penumbral shadow until approximately 3:01 AM, although this portion will be much more subtle.

✨ No special event is scheduled at May Hollow Dark Skies for this eclipse, but residents are welcome to enjoy the dark skies on their own at the May Hollow Skyway Site! 🔭
Want to borrow binoculars? Cameron County Recreation has a few sets of binoculars available for residents to use. Simply contact Cameron County Recreation to schedule a convenient pickup time and drop-off time.

For the best experience, plan to arrive or begin viewing around 10:30 PM, with the most impressive portion of the eclipse occurring around midnight. May Hollow Dark Skies is a wonderful place to get away from artificial light and enjoy the night sky right here in Cameron County. So grab a blanket, a chair, your binoculars, and a thermos of something warm — and look up! ✨🌌
