Emporium Rotary Club
Rotarian R. "Bunny" McLean was this week's program host at the Emporium Rotary Club.
Bunny's guest speaker, Taylor Gillette, managing director of CCOYA (Cameron County Outdoor Youth Activities) presented a wonderful program pertaining to how CCOYA introduces education and activities to the youth of the outdoor environment.
CCOYA began in 2011 with the aid of the Andrew's family and interacts throughout the year with various functions.
The Mission of CCOYA: Our goal is to provide youth the opportunity and education to become aware of and comfortable with an outdoor lifestyle, focusing on the benefits this will provide to their everyday lives and personal growth. We are confident that these opportunities will inspire our youth to carry on through support of our program and others like it as they grow to become productive adults, leaders in our communities and good stewards of our outdoor world.
Some of the youth programs held are, but not limited to: Ice fishing, turkey hunt, pheasant hunt, youth doe and bear hunt, and fly tying.
CCOYA works hard to fundraise to keep all youth activities free so that all may participate. They also hold an essay contest to win a scholarship to attend and participate in Camp Bighorn held in DuBois, Wyoming.
If you have an interested youth who wishes to learn more about the life of outdoors, you can reach out to Taylor by phone or email at 814-562-0421 or taylor.ccoyo@windstream.net.
