Cameron County Ambulance is proud to announce a new partnership with Bender Safety & Training Corporation to serve as a satellite training location for EMR, EMT, and Advanced EMT education, pending Regional EMS Council and Pennsylvania Department of Health, Bureau of EMS approval.
This partnership is about access. Across Pennsylvania, EMS certification programs are expensive, largely paid out of pocket, and not covered by FAFSA or traditional financial aid. At the same time, students are expected to complete hundreds of hours of classroom, clinical, and ride-along time, much of it unpaid. For rural and volunteer providers, these costs can be a barrier before a career even begins.
Running a compliant EMS education program is also expensive. Instructor wages, Pennsylvania Department of Health–required equipment inventories, insurance, facilities, technology, and ongoing compliance create significant annual costs before a single class is taught. This is the reality behind EMS education, and it is rarely visible to the public.
Together, Cameron County Ambulance and Bender Safety & Training are working to change that model. Our shared goal is to keep course costs well below the Pennsylvania average and to drive them as close to free as possible for local students, while still delivering high-quality, fully compliant education.
As previously shared, Bender Safety & Training has officially been approved for a $50,000 grant from the George and Margaret Mee Charitable Foundation. These funds will be used to purchase durable training equipment and instructional resources needed to operate EMT and Advanced EMT programs during the 2026 calendar year. This funding directly offsets costs that would otherwise be passed on to students. For residents of Cameron County, these courses are expected to be low-cost or free, pending final Board approval.
If you are interested in becoming an EMR, EMT, or Advanced EMT in 2026, we encourage you to follow both pages and watch for official announcements. You may also subscribe to receive updates at https://www.bendersafetytraining.org/subscribe.
This is a major step forward for rural EMS, and we’re proud to be part of building a more accessible and sustainable path into the profession.
Please share to help spread the word.
