Chamber Kitchen Open for Business
The first entity to schedule use of the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce kitchen is Northern Pennsylvania Regional College. Starting Monday October 13 free culinary classes will begin.
Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Solak says this is an opportunity for those considering jobs in commercial kitchens, current restaurant employees and the general public to increase skills. Topics to be covered include industry standard culinary terminology and hands on use of equipment, knife skills, food safety and sanitation. Recently Cameron County restaurants were asked to complete a survey regarding business needs. Solak says the surveys revealed the lack of trained employees continues to be a hurdle and often it leads to reduced open hours. NPRC took the findings and has tailored the course to train existing and potential new employees. The course will run two days a week for three weeks: Monday 4pm-8pm and Saturday 9am-2pm. On November 1 students will take the Serv Safe test. The entire class is paid for by the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
