Commissioners Jessica Herzing, Josh Zucal and James Moate were guest speakers of Rotarian John Rogers this week. The Commissioners each spoke about county concerns and how they are being addressed as well as the various projects they are working on. They also stated that each has a particular area of coverage that they handle. For instance, Commissioner Jessica Herzing has strengths in the financial end, which she elaborated on how a fiscal budget is being met and that any extra spending being used is not coming from the taxpayers but through grants. They were also able to reduce some spending by changing their payroll company for example.
Commissioner James Moate sits on multiple boards both locally and nationally and focuses primarily on technology, rural health, and arts & culture. He has been involved in discussions related to AI and broadband topics, and has also been working with Rep. Martin Causer on the EMS concerns.
Commissioner Josh Zucal is involved in the area of environmental issues such as the "Dark Skies", the Brownfields Program Grants, company searches, and noting that Cameron County is Graded 'A' in the Biomass Studies for potential electric companies and other industries to consider our town for future industrial development.
