Myrtle A. Baker

Myrtle A. Baker, 80, formerly of Russell Lane, Emporium, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, May 10, 2025, at Sweden Valley Manor in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. She was born on January 5, 1945, in St. Marys, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Mae (Iddings) Schweikart.

Myrtle was a proud graduate of the Austin Area High School Class of 1962. Over the course of her life, Myrtle built a remarkable career defined by dedication and diligence. She worked for more than 17 years at Sylvania before spending over 25 years at GKN. While at GKN, she was a valued member of the Safety Committee and had the distinguished honor of traveling to London, England, to accept a company-wide safety award — a testament to her commitment and leadership.

Myrtle lived a life marked by generosity, warmth, and community spirit. An avid bowler, she found joy on the lanes for many years. But she may be best remembered in Emporium for her legendary apple dumplings. Myrtle’s kitchen was a source of comfort and connection; she would lovingly bake dozens of dumplings and give them away to friends, coworkers, and neighbors. Each year, she also made them for the Emporium Presbyterian Church, where her contributions were cherished.

Myrtle is survived by her son, Frank Baker (Judai) of Anchorage, Alaska; seven grandchildren: Erin, Brandon, Wade, Emma, Kyle, Claudia, and Dalton; and five great-grandchildren: Kinsley, Brandon Jr., Aurora, David, and Lakeyn-Duane. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Williams of Roulette; two brothers, David Schweikart (Sylvia) of Bellevue, NE, and Roger Schweikart of St. Marys; along with 11 nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Bonnie Miller; a son, Joseph Baker; a brother, Ronald Schweikart; a sister, Sarah Lanphere; a niece, Rhonda Williams; and a nephew, Tristan Schweikart.

At Myrtle’s request, there will be no public visitation. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department, the Cameron County Ambulance Service, or Cameron County Outdoor Youth Activities, c/o: Taylor Gillette, 174 Nickler Rd., Emporium, PA 15834
