Rotary News

Lions Past District Governor and member of the Dubois Lions Club, Linda Lupro, was the guest speaker at the Rotary luncheon meeting November 3rd. Linda was raised in Emporium, graduating from Cameron County High School in 1967. She has degrees in American Studies and Library Science from Rutgers University and worked in public libraries for forty years.

After living in five other states, it was in Maryland in 2006 that she became active in the Lions Club. Lions Clubs are community service organizations that provide services and programs at local and international levels. The organization beginning in 1917, has 46,000 clubs and 1.4 million members in 200 countries and geographical areas around the globe. Lions clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired since Helen Keller’s landmark speech at the Lions Clubs International Convention in 1925 which marked the beginning of an era of vision service and support that would come to define the Lions for decades. The Lions have also championed youth initiatives, and strengthened local communities through hands-on service and humanitarian projects.

The Dubois Lions Club plans on having a booth at the Cameron County Chamber Christmas in the Wilds to share information about the Lions Clubs, and possibly get some members of the community active in their organization.
