O Christmas Tree

O Christmas Tree

Cameron County will light the sky in the month of December. The Cameron County Chamber of Commerce decked out house contest and a Christmas Tree lighting will put the sparkle in the Christmas season. The chamber continues to take registrations for the house decorating contest. Property owners are encouraged to enter by Saturday November 28. The lights must be turned on starting December 4. Judging is planned in each municipality of the county. If Covid-19 restrictions allow Student Transportation of America has offered a bus to take residents throughout the county to see the decorations.

Cameron County Chamber of Commerce executive director Tina Johns warns motorists of traffic tie ups Saturday November 21 when a 40 foot evergreen will be cut from a property on West Fourth Street and delivered to the vacant lot in downtown Emporium. The tree has been donated by the Novak family. It was originally planted by Esther Jackson who purchased the tree from Olivett Grocery Store sometime in the early 1990’s. The owner of Erickson Tree Farm, Erik planted the tree. He trimmed it yearly until Esther’s death.

Several businesses and individuals continue to collaborate on providing a tree for the Christmas season. They include Smoker Logging, Emporium Borough, Flowers N Things and Burkhouse Contracting. Those involved promise the community this will become a yearly event. The lights were purchased by an anonymous donor. The decorating of the tree will take place over a week period in time for Santa Claus to light the tree following the night parade on Friday December 4.
