George H. Horning




George H. Horning, 84, of 1728 Old West Creek Rd., Emporium, PA died at Penn Highlands Elk, St. Marys, PA on Tuesday morning (November 3, 2020). He was born April 22, 1936 in Emporium, PA a son of the late Charles and Bertha C. Faries Horning. On February 25, 1955 in St. Mark Catholic Church he married Virginia "Ginger" Williams, who survives.

George was a lifelong resident of Emporium and graduated from Emporium High School in the class of 1954. He retired from his successful family business, Horning and Son Paint Contracting, in 1998. George also was employed with the Emporium Police department, Ed Horning Trash Removal and Cameron Mfg.  He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, Emporium Senior Center and the Emporium Country Club. In his younger years George was a softball enthusiast and was the last surviving team member of his local softball team.  He continued his love for sports and engaged in golfing with his cronies at the Emporium Country Club.  He was diehard fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. George was a devoted husband and father who always put his family first.

In addition to his wife, of over 65 years, he is survived by five children, Robert (Jane) Horning; Vicki Platt; Scott (Carla) Horning; Kenneth (Brenda) Horning; Donald (Janet) Horning; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, all of whom referred to him as PopPop; loving dog, Penny; Godparents, Mick Kamats and Louise Cooney.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, George Michael Horning; grandson, Sgt. Keith Horning, Father-in-law, Robert “Beaver” Williams whom he deeply respected and worked along side of for years.

There will be No Visitation.
 A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic Church, 235 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Friday (November 6, 2020) at 12:00 PM with Rev. Paul S. Siebert, Pastor, as Celebrant. The Mass will be streamed live on St. Mark Catholic Church, Emporium facebook page.

Burial will be in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, Emporium, PA

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Emporium Senior Center, 105 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA 15834
