November Programs at Sinnemahoning State Park

 

This week’s weather has been glorious! I hope you have a chance to get outside and enjoy the sunshine while this “Indian Summer” lasts. Saturday’s beaver program will be held outdoors with an optional walk to see signs of beaver. Starting next week, all programs will meet indoors and will be capped at 10 participants per program. Pre-registration for indoor programs is strongly recommended.


 Beavers: Here, Gone, and Back Again
 Saturday, November 7, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM 

 Discover the important role the American beaver has played in the history of the U.S. and Pennsylvania and learn the natural history of these furbearers and their incredible reintroduction success story. Talk followed by an optional walk to see signs of beaver along the creek. All participants must wear facemasks and practice social distancing. Group size limited to 24 people. Pre-registration recommended. Meet at Pavilion 1 in the 40 Maples Day Use Area.

 Homeschool Day: Animal Tracks and Traces 
 Thursday, November 12, 10:00 AM–2:00 PM

 Discover the animals that live in the park and the tracks and traces that they leave behind. Includes both indoor and outdoor activities. Program is free and appropriate for all grade levels. Children must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must wear facemasks and practice social distancing. Group size limited to 10 people, including adults. 
Pre-registration is required by Sunday, November 8th.

Wildlife Center Classroom Wildlife Camera Trapping Series: Fishers (Part 1) 
Saturday, November 14, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM 

A two-part program series with a focus on using trail cameras to gain knowledge and insight of wildlife species found throughout the region. Learn about the rarely-seen fisher, its natural history, habits, and habitats and use this knowledge to choose an ideal location for camera trapping them. Includes a short hike to look at camera placement. All participants must wear facemasks and practice social distancing. Group size limited to 10 participants. Pre-registration is recommended. Wildlife Center classroom.

Wildlife Camera Trapping Series: Fishers (Part 2) 
Saturday, November 21, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM 

The second part of this series will review pictures collected by participants’ trail cams and share experiences. Discuss what worked well, what didn’t work, and learn about the incidental species that were also caught on camera. All participants must wear facemasks and practice social distancing. Group size limited to 10 participants. Pre-registration is recommended. Wildlife Center classroom.

Kids’ Storytime and Nature Walk 
Saturday, November 28, 1:00 PM – 2:15 PM 

Join the park educator for a book reading and simple craft followed by an outdoor activity based on the book, “Every Autumn Comes the Bear” by Jim Arnosky. Intended for families with children ages 3-7. Children must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must wear facemasks and practice social distancing. Group size limited to 10 people, including adults. Pre-registration is recommended. Wildlife Center classroom.
