Fight Like Andrew!

Update on Andrew Lathrop  - from his mother

 3 days ago was Andrew’s last dose of chemo for this round. 🎗️❤️

 Now we wait and pray. 🙏 

Doctors have started the antibiotics early this time so hopefully no issues this round. 

He’s been through so much, and we’re incredibly proud of how hard he’s fought through all of this. Hopefully this treatment does exactly what we need it to do. 

Thank you to everyone who continues to pray for Andrew and keep him in your thoughts.

Well, now that’s it’s officially public, allow me to explain what Andrew Lathrop is going through. 

I will leave out the beginning details, but Andy started getting really bad headaches back in June, followed with and by some focal seizures. He quickly began to lose function and movement on his left side growing weaker by the day. Fast forward a few weeks,

 I was able to get him transferred to shady side to be with his amazing oncologist Leonard Appleman. Let’s just say the day the doctors came in to give us the news of his mri will forever be the biggest nightmare of our family and friends. His brain tumor had grown, ALOT!! 

Andy had a choice to make, fight or let go. The fight is gonna be hard, he is gonna get knocked down, he is gonna feel awful, it is gonna be extremely hard. 

Andrew decided he was gonna fight!! 

His words “I haven’t given up so far, why give up now. He went through his first round of aggressive chemo in the beginning of august, and they weren’t wrong, it was hard. It knocked him down, wiped out his white blood cells and platelets. He got a small case of pneumonia. He was in rough shape. 4 more family meetings in the next 3 weeks trying to prepare us for the worst. 

But I’m gonna tell ya, this boy is tough!! He is strong, and he is determined. every time a doctor said the end is near he came back fighting. 

 Fast forward to last week, Jordan and Andy requested a new mri. 

The tumors are shrinking!! He still has a long way to go, but so far it’s working. 

Another meeting, does Andy want to go through another three weeks of hell?

 It’s gonna be tough again, go forward or go home and prepare.

 HE CHOSE TO FIGHT!! 

He knows exactly how it’s gonna be this time and yet he still chose to fight!! 

Yesterday was day one of the next round. Today day 2. He has 3 more days of chemo, and then we wait. We watch his numbers, keep a close eye on him and we wait. 

Weeks two and three can get bad but we wait. 

 Andy is never left alone!! Between myself, my boyfriend Jeff herzing, his girlfriend jordan Barr, my sister bri, somebody is always with him!! 

He has had so many friends and family already visit him. He just lights up with every visit, every text, every phone call!! The worst part about having cancer and being away from home is the feeling you’re all alone. Andy has so many people that care about him, and I can’t thank all of you enough!! 

 He has a fight out in front of him, but with his siblings, his family, his girlfriend, and his friends behind him he’s pushing through. 

Andy thanked his oncologist yesterday for everything has done for him and His oncologist told him “ don’t thank me. It’s all you!

 So many people are impressed with your determination. Speechless of everything you have come through and not given up.” I couldn’t be more proud of the courageous, strong willed young man he is. Please keep Andy in your prayers!! 

Text him, call him, send cards. On those hard days, he needs to know he’s not alone!! 

He may not be able to use his phone but he has us check it everyday and read messages and answer them!

The Lady Raider Volleyball Team will be holding a Purple Night on October 8, 2026 to help support Andrew Lathrop.

 Andrew is the brother and cousin to two of our Lady Raiders. 

 Currently Andrew is in Pittsburgh undergoing treatment. 

 To help with travel costs, we will be holding a Chinese Auction during the JV game and first set of Varsity game. We will announce winners at the end of Set 2 of the varsity game.
