Sinnemahoning History Series: George B. Stevenson -
The namesake of
the reservoir located in the park; George B. Stevenson was a staunch supporter of flood control
and essential in the creation of what was to be called the “First Fork Dam”. Learn about Mr.
Stevenson’s life and the legacy he left behind.

Historic Fun in the First Fork Valley - Stop by 40 Maples Day Use Area
and celebrate America250 by learning about two of the games that people have been playing in
the valley for over a hundred years. All materials and instruction provided.

Historic Woodhick Skills - Try your hand with some of the tools that the
local woodhicks used to cut and move timber from the First Fork Valley to market in the late
1800's and early 1900's.

Flood Control in the First Fork: A Historical Overview and Film
Showing - Completed in 1956, this year marks 70 years of flood control service for the George
B. Stevenson Dam.
Join a park educator for a presentation about the construction and the
history of the dam as well as a showing of home video of the dam construction. The footage
was taken by Gilbert E. Kyle, an engineer for Gannet, Fleming, Corddry and Carpenter, the
architecture firm that designed the George B. Stevenson Dam, during it's construction from
1953 to 1956.
This presentation will take place at the George B. Stevenson Dam overlook.
Please
bring lawn chair to enjoy the film. In the event of inclement weather the program will be held
in the wildlife center classroom.

9:00 AM, 10:30 A.M., and 12:30 P.M. -Pontoon Tours of the Stevenson Reservoir
Join park staff
for a relaxing and informative tour around the lake, as we cruise the shoreline of the George B.
Stevenson Reservoir in search of wildlife. Group size is limited.
To reserve a seat, please pre-
register. Registration is not required but is strongly recommended.
