John “Mick” Gibbs, 90, of Cameron County passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Mick was born September 10, 1935, the 15th child of William and Virginia Woodring Gibbs. He was a lifelong resident of Cameron County, a place he loved dearly.
On January 22, 1957, in Emporium, he married Barbara Coy, the love of his life. Together, they shared 69 years of marriage, building a life centered on devotion, resilience, and family.
Mick was a proud member of the 798 Pipeline Union, known for his strong work ethic and dedication throughout his career. Earlier in his life, he was employed at the dynamite factory in Emporium and survived the tragic Emporium dynamite factory explosion on January 7, 1956, an event that stayed with him and shaped his enduring appreciation for life and family.
He later built a beautiful home in Elk Fork, Rich Valley, on land that once served as the largest logging camp in the county; a place that reflected both his pride in the area's history and his skill as a builder and provider.
Mick found joy in the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life. He loved hunting, riding his four wheeler, and spending time in the woods. He was also a devoted fan of John Wayne whose toughness and quiet strength he admired.
Above all, Mick cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his daughters, Lori Reed (David) and Lisa Miglicio (Russ); his grandchildren, Rob Reed (Holly), and Matt Reed (Laura); and his great grandchildren, Ben and Joey Reed, who brought him great pride and happiness.
He will be remembered for his steady presence, his deep roots in Cameron County, and the love and loyalty he showed to his family every day.
A private service will be held by the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cameron County Ambulance Service, 299 E. Second St., Emporium, PA 15834 or to Penn Highland Community Nurses, Hospice, 757 Johnsonburg Rd., Suite 200, St. Marys, PA 15857 in appreciation for the care and support they provide to families in times of need.
