Alvin H. Brown

Alvin H. Brown, known affectionately as Al, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the age of 77 in Emporium PA from a lengthy battle with cancer. Born on June 22, 1947 in Ridgway, PA. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a respected member of his community. He attended Emporium schools and graduated from Cameron County High School in 1965 before furthering his education at Penn State, Dubois.

Al loved many things in life: family, outdoors, service of others, and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He married his high school sweetheart Marilyn Hathaway in November 1966. She was the love of his life and partner in many great adventures. Together, they traversed the US as members of the Goldwing Road Riders Motorcycle Group which he served two years as PA state Director.

Al was a man of the great outdoors. His interests ranged from motorcycling, hunting, fishing, boating, and sailing, to gun collecting, reloading, gunsmithing, maple, tapping, jeep rides, and going to camp.

Al was deeply spiritual and actively involved in the Emporium CMA Church. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life, providing strength and comfort in times of need. In the early 70s, Al first understood and welcomed Jesus into his life.

Was a pillar of strength and generosity, always putting others before himself. Early in his life, he served as Lieutenant of the Emporium Fire Department Rescue Truck and Emporium Ambulance Service. Al's career in law enforcement began with training at the PA State Police Academy in Hershey, leading to roles as a patrol man, and eventually the superintendent of the Emporium Police Department. After a decade of police service, Al continued his dedication to public safety and justice as the District Justice for Cameron County, a position he held with distinction for 30 years.

Al was preceded in death by his mother Corinne Nitsche and father Carl O. Brown, and is survived by his daughter, Kelly Driscoll (Andrew), Switzerland and a son Barry Brown, (Rhonda), Emporium, PA. Al loved his grandchildren: Jake Brown (Abby), Loveland, CO, Katie Brady (Troy), Benton PA, Dakota Gonzolaz (Daniel), Lawrence, Kansas, Spencer Brown (Natalie), Erie, PA and Patrick Driscoll, Switzerland; two great grandchildren: Rynlee Brown and Jack Brady; sisters, Diana Grant, Sugar Grove, PA and Darlene Levin, Busti, NY; brother George Brown (Judy), Beechwood.

The Brown family will receive friends on Saturday (August 17, 2024) from 10:00 -10:45 AM at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Sizerville Road, Emporium, PA followed by the service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Lionel Owen, Pastor, officiating.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Penn Highlands Community Nurses, HOSPICE, 757 Johnsonburg Rd., Suite 200, St. Marys, PA 15857
