Joann Elenor Harpster, 94, of Emporium, PA passed away at her residence on Sunday morning (February 4, 2024). She was born January 2, 1930 in Emporium, PA a daughter of the late Charles A. and Wilda Ingersoll Schwab Sr. On November 17, 1957 in First Presbyterian Church, Emporium she married Arthur Harpster, who survives.
Joann graduated from Cameron County High School in the class of 1948. She worked at Sylvania before attending Pan-Am airline stewardess school. She then moved to Springfield, VA in 1960, where she worked on the Council at the Pentagon representing men and women in the armed forces, until her retirement in 1987. Upon her return back to Emporium she was involved in Cancer Society, Little Museum and the bloodmobile.
In addition to her husband she is survived by a sister, Donna Pelkey (Jack), Emporium; brother, Gary Schwab (Alice), Emporium and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Nancy L. Reed and a brother Charles “Sonny” Schwab, Jr.
Visitation will be at the First Presbyterian Church, 205 E. 4th St., Emporium, PA on Wednesday (February 7, 2024) from 11:00-11:45 AM followed by a service at 12:00 PM with Mr. Gary Boden, officiating.
Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA
