Programs September 17-20 at Sinnemahoning State Park

Programs September 17-20 at Sinnemahoning State Park

Enjoy the early fall weather with an outdoor program at Sinnemahoning State Park. Next week park staff are offering two opportunities to catch and tag monarchs, a talk on reintroduced game species, and a guided bike tour. Pre-registration is required for some programs.

Thursday, September 17, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, Monarch Watch Butterfly Tagging. Monarch butterfly migration presentation followed by a short walk to catch, tag, and release monarch butterflies. Arial nets provided. Be prepared to walk through fields. All participants must wear face masks. Limit 24 people. Pre-registration is recommended. Program is weather-dependent. Meet outdoors in front of the Wildlife Center.

Saturday, September 19, 1:00 PM – 2:15 PM, Gone and Back Again: Reintroduced Game Animals of PA. Many of the game species that are plentiful in Pennsylvania today were once nearly or completely gone from the state due to loss of habitat and overhunting. Join the park naturalist to learn about some of the wild game species whose populations have been restored through conservation practices and their current status in PA. Facemasks are required. All ages welcome. Group size limited to 24 people. Program will be held outdoors in the campground amphitheater.

Sunday, September 20, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Fall Foliage Bike Tour. Join the park naturalist for a morning bike ride along the Lowlands Trail, as we look closely at the colors of fall and the natural processes that cause this dramatic change. Bring your own bicycle or use one of ours. Ride will be 3-5 miles on improved gravel trail. All experience levels welcome. Group size limited. Pre-registration is required by Friday, Sept. 18. Meet outside in front of the Wildlife Center.

Sunday, September 20, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, Monarch Watch Butterfly Tagging. A repeat of Thursday’s program with a short presentation followed by a chance to catch, tag, and release monarch butterflies. Arial nets provided. Be prepared to walk through fields. All participants must wear face masks. Limit 24 people. Pre-registration is recommended. Program is weather-dependent. Meet outdoors in front of the Wildlife Center.

To mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19, until further notice, all programs at Sinnemahoning State Park will be held outdoors, will be limited to 25 people or less, will follow social-distancing guidelines, and will require use of face masks. All participants must wear face coverings while attending PA State Park programs.

To pre-register, or for more information, please visit the DCNR Calendar of Events http://events.dcnr.pa.gov. If you need assistance with online registration, please call the park office 814-647-8401 and dial 0 for the front desk.

If you need an accommodation to participate in PA State Park activities due to a disability, please contact the park you plan to visit. With at least seven days’ notice, interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available for educational programs.
