George Ann Holden

George Ann Holden, daughter of the late George and Ann Sullivan Holden, died September 18, 2020, at the age of 97. She was born November 20, 1922 in Emporium.

In addition to her parents, Georgie was predeceased by her sisters, Pauline Lewis, Mary Jane Pleak, and Frances Margaret Holden, and her brother-in-law, Bud Pleak.

After graduating from Emporium High School, Georgie worked briefly in Youngstown, OH and Washington, DC. Upon returning to Emporium, she worked at Sylvania and was a member of the NHD club. She then began working for attorney/DA John D. Gresimer, continuing until his retirement. At that time she became a full time caregiver for her mother.

She was godmother to nine lucky children and was everyone’s favorite aunt. Her favorite vacation was going to the beach with the Andersons. Active in the community, she delivered Meals on Wheels, bowled in many leagues, was secretary of the Class of ’41, and for many years wrote a column in the Cameron County Echo.

Georgie is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews: Bob (Joanne) Pleak of Salinas, CA; Mary Ann Pleak Weber of Billings, MT; Jane Pleak Alquist of Statesboro, GA; George Ann “Jo” Pleak of Emporium; Drew Pleak of NYC; James (Dianne) Chandler of Mesa, AZ whom she helped raise; Michael Fiscus of Emporium; Lee (Carol) Lewis of Roxbury, MA; and Ann Lewis Gordon of Toronto, Canada, as well as her large extended Sullivan family and many dear friends.

A Funeral Mass in St. Mark Church and interment in St. Mark Cemetery, both in Emporium, will be held at the convenience of the family.

Donations in Georgie’s memory may be made to the Guy & Mary Felt Manor or to the Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library, both in Emporium.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium.
