"The Lookout"

TOP USA - Pennsylvania Route 120

TOP USA
Pennsylvania Route 120 (PA 120) is a state highway spanning approximately 104 miles across north-central Pennsylvania, connecting Ridgway in Elk County to Lock Haven in Clinton County. Established in 1926 as U.S. Route 120, it was redesignated as PA 120 around 1967.

Route Overview:
 • Western Terminus: PA 120 begins at an intersection with U.S. Route 219 in Ridgway, Elk County.
 • Eastern Terminus: The route concludes near Lock Haven, intersecting with U.S. Route 220.

Along its path, PA 120 traverses the scenic landscapes of Cameron and Clinton counties, closely following the Sinnemahoning Creek and the West Branch Susquehanna River. This corridor is designated as the Bucktail State Park Natural Area, a 75-mile stretch named in honor of the Pennsylvania Bucktails Regiment from the Civil War era.

Historical Significance:
The highway traces its origins to the Sinnemahoning Path, an ancient Native American trail facilitating travel across the Allegheny Front, bridging the Susquehanna and Allegheny River watersheds. In the early 20th century, constructing this route was deemed a formidable challenge, with skeptics dubbing it “The Impossible Road.” Despite these doubts, construction commenced in October 1926, culminating in a vital transportation link that has endured for decades.

Scenic and Recreational Highlights:
Travelers on PA 120 can immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Pennsylvania Wilds region. The Bucktail Trail Scenic Byway offers picturesque views of dense forests, rolling valleys, and diverse wildlife habitats. This route is particularly popular among outdoor enthusiasts seeking opportunities for hiking, fishing, and wildlife observation

Support Brandy's Fight Against Cancer
My sister in law, Brandy Mason, is fighting a big battle.
She has been diagnosed with small cell lung cancer that has spread to her lymph nodes.
She also has spots on her liver. If you know Brandy, you know she’s the kindest person that never puts herself first. She has a heart of gold and is always there when anyone needs anything.
She is currently in UPMC Hamot. The travel back and forth and all the other expenses are going to add up. Even if you can’t give, please pray for Brandy and the family.

Fighting for Labor and Delivery Services in Our Region

Fighting for Labor and Delivery Services in Our Region
Late last week, UPMC officials announced they would be eliminating childbirth delivery services from UPMC Cole, forcing expectant mothers to travel all the way to Wellsboro to deliver their babies.
This decision potentially puts the lives of expectant mothers and their babies at risk.
Ending these services would mean no labor and delivery services available in a seven-county region of the state…a region where finances and transportation challenges would make it very difficult for many families-to-be to receive the care they need.
Federal, state and local officials are working to meet with UPMC leaders to discuss the situation.
In the meantime, if you’d like to make your opinions known on the subject, you may call UPMC Williamsport at 570-321-3170.
