Rotary Club of Emporium
This week, the Rotary Club of Emporium held its annual 4-Way Speech Contest.
This year, 3 students competed in preparing a speech with the topic of their choice. The speech can last no less than 5 minutes and no longer than 7 minutes in length.
Each contestant must draft their speech with the Rotary's 4-Way Test: Is it the truth?, Is it fair to all concerned?, Will it build goodwill and better friendships?, and Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
After providing the students and staff with lunch, the club assembled to the Sanctuary of the Endless Mountains Methodist Church.
1st place was awarded to senior Kelsie Kearney, 2nd place to sophomore Amber Earle, and 3rd place to sophomore Emmylina Smith. The girls chose interesting and personal topics. Kelsie Kearney will now compete in Hancock, MD at the Regional competition level March 15th. Our club would like to thank Ms. Jocelyn Bash, the high school speech teacher for her cooperation and guidance; and to Rotarian Denyse Carpio for orchestrating this wonderful event!
