Lawrence D. "Larry" Boring

 

Lawrence D. "Larry" Boring, 85, of Montoursville, PA formerly of Cameron Road, Emporium, PA passed away at UPMC Williamsport Divine Providence, Williamsport, PA on Monday afternoon (October 30, 2023). He was born February 24, 1938 in Conemaugh, PA a son of the late Walter and Rosella Williams Boring. On September 4, 1960 in Conemaugh he married the late Mary Sue Dennis.

Larry served in the PA Nation Guard (Staff Sergeant). He graduated from Lock Haven University and from West Virginia University with a master’s degree in History Education. He retired from Cameron County High School where he taught health and physical education for many years. He was very involved in the athletic programs including the popular gymnastic exhibitions “gym shows”. He was an avid genealogist, and learned to honor the sacrifices endured by previous generations by continually striving for excellence. As an educator he sought to impart the expectation of excellence to his students as well. His family was a sacred priority as evidenced by his consistent and loving support of his grandchildren's many activities. He often expressed his fondness for Emporium and Cameron County, its natural beauty, and the enduring friendships he had.

Larry is survived by two sons, Travis Boring (Carla), Lexington, TN and Troy Boring (Cheri), Williamsport, PA; six grandchildren: Bailey, Carissa, Blake, Ellie, Kaylin and David; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Claire Kostora, Johnstown, PA and Gayle (William) Ragley, Johnstown, PA.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by an infant son, Lawrence D. Boring, Jr. and two brothers, Terrill "Pete" and Jerry Boring.

Visitation with Video Tribute will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home on Friday from 3-4:45 PM followed by a service at 5:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Friday (November 3, 2023) at 5:00 PM with Pastor James Bitner, officiating. Committal service will be in the Headrick Union Cemetery, Johnstown, PA on Saturday at 11;00 AM.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Cameron County Ambulance Service, 299 E. Second St., Emporium, PA 15834 or to Cameron County School District to be used for a sports program.
