Programs July 17-18 at Sinnemahoning State Park

 

Hello Sinnemahoning Friends!
 I hope you are having a fun summer and spending lots of time outdoors in PA State Parks.

Programs for the rest of this month include this weekend dedicated to elk and their antlers, next weekend features bats and our annual bat count, and the final weekend of the month includes programs on crayfish and butterflies. Pontoon tours are offered every Sunday morning through the end of September. If you have any questions, please email me or call the park office. Saturday, July 17 3:00-4:00 PM 
 Measuring and Scoring Antlers. Discover how deer and elk antlers grow, what conditions make for the largest antlers, and how to measure elk and deer antlers. Program includes hands-on practice of measuring elk antlers and take-home references. Under pavilion 1 at 40 Maples Day Use Area.

Saturday, July 17 4:15-5:00 PM 
 Antler Craft for Kids. Learn about elk and deer antlers and how they grow while creating your own wearable antler art. All materials provided. Recommended for ages 2-10. Younger children will need adult assistance. Under pavilion 1 at 40 Maples Day Use Area.

Saturday, July 17 8:00-9:00 PM 
 Understanding Elk Behavior. When watching elk this year, do more than just count antler points, learn to read elk behavior by understanding herd dynamics, body language & vocalizations. Interactive program that is fun for all ages. Campground Amphitheater. In case of rain, campground program will be moved indoors to the Wildlife Center classroom.

Saturday, July 17 9:00-9:30 PM 
 Campground Movie: 100 Years of Elk in PA. Discover the story of how the once-extirpated elk were restored to Pennsylvania and how public lands were managed to help their populations flourish. 33-minute video by PA Game Commission. Campground Amphitheater. In case of rain, campground movie will be moved indoors to the Wildlife Center classroom.

Sunday, July 18 9:00 AM, 10:30 AM & 12:00 PM 
 Pontoon Boat Tours. Join park staff for a relaxing and informative 1-hour tour of the lake as we search the shoreline for herons, ducks, turtles, and other wildlife. Program is free but donations are requested. All ages welcome. Reservations recommended but not required. Lake Day Use Area.
