Father Paul Siebert & Dave Malizia, Food & Nutrition Program Director at Northern Tier, were the guest speakers at the Rotary luncheon meeting June 8th, updating the club on the workings of the Food Pantry. Started in 1989 the Food Pantry feeds approximately 140 families a month. Funds to purchase food come from private food and fund donations, along with state & federal programs. Food is purchased from Shurfine and Second Harvest Food Bank out of Erie, PA. Eligibility to receive food is by family size, monthly income. With the COVID outbreak, they have had to change a few of their distribution procedures such as curb side pickup. Dave thanked Rotarians who each month assemble and pack food boxes for Maple Street Apartment and Emporium Arms. Without volunteers in the community, Dave states “Food Pantry could not operate”. Also pictured (middle) is Rotarian, Rick Olivett one of the original organizers and volunteers.
