Sandra Fox Baker

Sandra Fox Baker, 85, of 21211 CCC Memorial Highway, Emporium, passed away on Tuesday (December 8, 2020) at her beloved home in Cameron.

Born July 8, 1935, in Wellsboro, PA, she was the daughter of Dr. Louis I. and Beryl H. Fox.

On January 22, 1955, in Westfield, NY, she married the love of her life, James E. Baker, who preceded her in death.

Sandy and Jim met while they were attending Edinboro University, where she was an art major. In 1958, she and Jim moved their young family to Emporium, where they were content to spend the rest of their days.

Sandy loved interacting with people and loved her community. Aside from raising her family, she enjoyed the time she spent at Cameron County High School teaching physical education, as well as her time as a teacher's aide at the Fourth Street School. She happily greeted customers for many years at Wert's and Margie's News and Gifts. However, Sandy was best known for and took great pride in her many years spent lifeguarding and supervising at the CCHS and Sizerville State Park pools. She taught many people to swim in Cameron County and the surrounding area. In addition to swimming lessons, she was a Red Cross certified instructor and helped coach the Emporium swim team.

Sandy dearly loved her family and enjoyed spending time visiting them in various places across the country. She spent many hours watching her children and grandchildren play in various sports. She also shared her husband, Jim's, passion for firearms. The couple were staples at area gun shows where they made many lifelong friends.

Survivors include: one son, Scott (Kay) Baker of Emporium, and three daughters, Kim Farina of Emporium, Kelly (Jeffrey) Wong of Stevensville, MD, and Kerry (Michael) Etchepare of Emporium, a foster daughter, Roberta de Rosa of Warwick, RI; six grandchildren Paul (Amanda) Baker, Michael (Nikki) Baker, Abby (Jake) Brown, Paul Etchepare, Kristi Wong and Anna Wong; and two great-granddaughters, Jade and Oaklyn Baker.
She is also survived by a brother, James (Maryann) Fox of Oneonta, NY.

In addition to her husband Jim of 62 years, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law,
Nicholas Farina.

There will be no public funeral service.
The family is planning a private memorial at a later date.

As a result of the amazing care and support provided to Sandy and her family, memorial donations in her memory may be made to Penn Highlands Community Nurses Hospice Program, 757 Johnsonburg Road, St. Marys, PA 15857.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium.
