James W. "Murph" Murray


James W. "Murph" Murray, 89, of 311 Howard Circle, Emporium, PA died at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA on Friday afternoon (December 25, 2020). He was born March 30, 1931 in Emporium, PA a son of the late John and Marian Judd Murray. On May 11, 1962 in St. Mark Church he married Suzanne Sullivan, who survives. 

Jim graduated from Emporium High School in the class of 1950. He attended Penn State University until he was drafted October 1952 into the US Army, medical corp., and was deployed to Korea. Jim was discharged as a corporal in September 1954. After returning home he entered Gettysburg College, graduating in 1959, with a Bachelor of business degree. He worked at S.S. Kressage in Harrisburg for one year before returning home to Emporium. He worked for the Postal Service in Emporium as a carrier and office clerk until his retirement in 1996. As a young man he played softball in the Emporium Softball League and bowled on different leagues until the closing of the lanes. He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed walking his dog every day. 

In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Kenneth Lewis, Emporium; grandson, Richard Lewis, Emporium; sister, Edith Walker Isacki, Gaithersberg, MD. 
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Stephenson and Edna Schager; and a brother, Judd Murray. 

There will be No Visitation.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic Church, 235 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Monday, (December 28, 2020) at 9:00 AM with Rev. Paul S. Siebert, Pastor, as Celebrant. 
The Mass will be streamed live on St. Mark Catholic Church, Emporium facebook page. 

Burial will be in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, Emporium, PA 

Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
