Rodney C. “Rod” Hoffower

Rodney C. “Rod” Hoffower, age 69 of Emporium, PA, passed away at Penn Highlands DuBois, DuBois, PA on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 from complications of the Coronavirus. Rod was born in St. Marys, PA, the eldest son of Mildred B. “Mid” Hoffower and the late Rodney E. Hoffower. On August 26, 1972, Rod married his high school sweetheart, Barb (Glasl) Hoffower, and together they raised four children.

He graduated Cameron County High School with the class of 1969. Following graduation, Rod enlisted in the Army and served his country through two tours in Vietnam (’70-’71) where he was a sharpshooter and received a Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars. Rod was a welder/pipefitter by trade and retired after thirty-one years from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 354. He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church. Throughout his life, Rod enjoyed friends, farming, gardening, and was an avid hunter. He cherished his children, grandchildren, and his four-legged sidekick, Pepper. Rod’s quick wit, hardy laugh, colorful humor, and big heart will be immensely missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his mother, Mid, and his loving wife, Barb, he is survived by a daughter, Becca (Zack) Petitt, State College, PA; three sons: Dan (Maryann) Hoffower, New Braunfels, TX; Robert Hoffower, Emporium, PA; and Russell (Caris) Hoffower, Slippery Rock, PA; four grandchildren: Sabina, Mia, Richard, and Arthur Hoffower; three step-grandchildren and three siblings: Shirley (Forney) Bierly, Kentucky; Tim Hoffower, Erie, PA; and Tom Hoffower, Florida.

Rod was preceded in death by his father, Rodney E. Hoffower, and step-father, Arthur Grimm.

Due to the pandemic, a private service will be held. A celebration of life will follow at a later date to be determined by the family.
