Gibson Township has an immediate opening for a Township Road maintenance worker.
The ideal candidate will have road work experience and ability to safely operate heavy equipment (backhoe, grader, skid steer, boom mowers, tractors, trash truck), chain saws, pole saws and drive a truck with a trailer attached or plow for winter maintenance.
Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid and clean driver’s license. Applicants must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid PA Commercial Driver’s License.

“Library 2-Go-Go” Curbside Pickup Service Press Release
The Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library is committed to providing patrons expanded access to online resources and safe access to physical materials through a limited curbside pickup service, “Library 2-Go-Go” beginning Tuesday, May 26.
The library building will remain closed through this period, but area residents can still access our wifi signal from the safety of their vehicles in our back parking lot. The login information will be posted on the back door of the library for all patrons to access the wifi.
We will also continue to expand our online and contact free activities and resources for adults and children.
Starting Tuesday, May 26, patrons will be able to check out physical materials by calling the library at 814-486-8011 or reserving an item through our online catalog by going to http://barbaramoscatobrownlibrary.org and clicking on “Online Catalog”.
Hours for Library 2-Go-Go pickups will be Mondays and Thursdays, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The parking spot directly in front of the library will be designated specifically for Library 2-Go-Go pickups. Patrons will be assigned a specific day and pickup timeframe and orders will be placed on a cart in the library foyer. There will be no access through the back door.
For your safety, please wear a mask and limit one patron in foyer at a time.
Special arrangements can be made for disabled and high-risk patrons.
Pickup orders will be limited to 5 ITEMS PER PICKUP ORDER at this time. If you do not know the specific titles you would like, your order will be limited to 3 items. Same-day pickup will not be possible with this system as we navigate the best way to fill all requests, library staff ask patrons to allow AT LEAST 24-48 hours for processing, and thank you in advance for your patience.
The library will also be providing Early Reader 3-book bundles for our youngest patrons (ages 5 and under). Parents can choose from the following bundles: Grab Bag (assorted books picked by librarian), Animals/Nature, Early Learning (colors, shapes, letters, etc), or Funny/Silly.
Remember, the Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library building remains closed to the public and patrons will not be allowed to enter for any reason. Lobbies, restrooms, computers, and other spaces will not be accessible.
Policies, pickup options and pickup times may be subject to changes as we navigate this new system. As always, we will notify our patrons of any future changes to procedure.

The primary election is now just over two weeks away.
Regardless of the status of your county of residence (red or yellow), voters may choose to either vote by mail or in person. Even if your county is still under a stay-at-home order, you can vote in person if that is your preference.

People are invited to Carpenter’s Shop, in Ulysses, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 16 to participate in a “dairy drive-thru,” where several boxes of local dairy products will be given away for free.
Allyson Anderson, a farm animal vet and owner of Headwaters Veterinary Service, in conjunction with Lacy Miles, an agriculture teacher at Northern Potter, organized a fundraiser, which has raised more than $2,000, to purchase local dairy products.
Anderson said God’s Country Creamery has donated milk and cheese for the drive-thru, and said they will focus on purchasing dairy items that were produced locally, like New Horizons, Friendship, N.Y., where many local dairies sell milk to, where it is processed into Friendship Cottage Cheese, among other products. Other local dairy goes to the Middlebury co-op, which then distributes the milk to various locations, such as the Hood dairy company, which makes Hood milk and cheese products, along with many other brands, including Heluva Good, the fundraiser states. Some other local dairy farms sell to Land o’Lakes, which produces butter.
The goal of the drive thru, Anderson said, is to help feed the community and provide people with nutritious dairy products, as well as get products out of the supply line so the milk handlers have more room for more products.
The Headwaters FFA chapter will sell T-shirts at the dairy drive-thru, which read, “An industry that feeds us is an industry worth fighting for; Support your local dairy farmers #drinkmoremilk!” The chapter has also been making care packages for local dairy farmers; proceeds will help support that project.
Potter County Beverage is donating its cooler trailer to store the dairy products in and the Carpenter’s Shop is donating the use of its parking lot.

Celebrate National Trails with a Virtual Hike
Saturday June 6 is National Trails Day.
In Cameron County a virtual hike is planned for that day. Participants are encouraged to select a trail in the county and take a selfie. Use the hashtags #NationalTrailsDay and #HikeCameronCounty when posting to social media. The chamber of commerce will randomly select winners from the posts.
“This is one event where you can social distance,” says executive director Tina Solak. The chamber is continuing to plan for a golf outing and Weekend in the Wilds. Admitting both of those events may look different as the chamber will follow the Covid-19 guidelines from the PA Department of Health

As of May 15th, we have collected $13,028.50 toward our $19,000 goal. Thanks to all who have contributed so far.
This month’s featured organization will be the Garden Club.
The Garden Club uses funds raised for their projects to beautify our community. The members of this club plant and take care of the flowers & shrubs at the Library, Veterans’ Memorial Park, Northwest Savings Bank, Citizens and Northern Bank and the containers in the Downtown area. They do the seasonal decorations inside the library. The Garden club helps with the plantings at Sinnemahoning State Park as well as taking care of the atrium at Guy & Mary Felt Manor. They club participates in the October Festival at Sizerville State Park and has a display at the Cameron County Fair. They also do litter pick up and recycling for a two-mile stretch of Rt.120W three times a year as part of the “Adopt-A-Highway” program. In 2010 they were asked to help with the plantings at the new visitor center at Sinnemahoning State Park. Two years ago, they were able to purchase and install a Blue Star Memorial Highway Marker at the Cameron County Veterans’ Park.
The theme this year for the Emporium Garden Club is: “The Art of Community Gardening”. The object of the club is to develop the knowledge and love of gardening for the mutual benefit of members and community.
The Club has many activities planned for 2020 but things are going to look a little different. We had to postpone our annual kick-off dinner due to the COVID virus and we hope to have our guest speaker from the Jefferson County Master Gardener program come later in the year. We are still proceeding with our annual plantings in downtown Emporium, the Library and the Vets’ Park in May when weather permits. The following meetings have been planned but may have to be modified as we see fit to comply with any virus issues. In June we will have our meeting with Jane Olson, Master Gardener, from Elk County discuss invasive plants and insects. July has us doing maintenance at our Library, the Vets’ Park and the school gardens with a picnic to follow.
August brings us to the Cameron County Fair where we will have a display and participate in the Jan Hampton Conservation Night with a craft for the children. In September we are planning a Harvest Dinner and seed and perennial exchange. We will have fellow garden club member share about hummingbirds at our regular meeting and we hope to participate in the Fall Festival at Sizerville State Park in October. We also hope to have Kristine Schuckers Finck come and bring along many varieties of her vegetables from her farm. This will be contingent on the weather and her harvest. In November we hope to have a workshop at the Library with the public entitled “Decorating with Books” for the holiday season. We will also be decorating the downtown areas with greens. To complete the year we plan to go back to Sarah Jane’s Art Studio for our Christmas Party. Please watch the local newspaper for our meeting dates, places and activities as they are subject to change. We have also received a large grant from the “Plant America” program to refurbish the gardens at the Elementary School but with the area unavailable at this time we are postponing that project. Hopefully we can start that in the fall with an amazing group of volunteers.
William J. O'Neil
William J. O'Neil, 88, of Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, PA formerly of Weedville and Driftwood, PA died at Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, PA on Thursday morning (May 14, 2020).
He was born February 17, 1932 in Geneva, New York a son of the late Joseph and Florence Williamson O'Neil. He married the late Carol Smith O'Neil.
Mr. O'Neil served with US Army. He retired from DuPont in Rochester, NY and also has worked at GKN in Emporium for several years. He was an active member of the Driftwood Senior Center.
He is survived by a son, Bob O'Neill (Tracy), Caledonia, NY;
daughter, Colleen Shimmel (Ben), DuBois; six grandchildren: Brandon, Kayla, Kristen, Kellan, Shea and Brenden, eight great grandchildren,
One sister, Barbara Talarico, Webster, NY.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by
a son, Patrick in infancy and numerous brothers and sisters.
There will be no visitation. Private Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church, 235 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA.
Burial will be in the Mix Run Cemetery, Mix Run, PA

Job opening at Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library
The Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library is looking to hire a part-time Library Clerk to join our small, vibrant staff. Clerk will be responsible for technical and circulation services, which include but are not limited to, shelving and processing materials, emptying book drops, working the circulation desk, cleaning, clerical duties and assisting the Librarian as needed. This is a part-time 20-25 hours per week position at $8.50 per hour.
QUALIFICATIONS: This is an entry level position, but previous experience in a public service environment is a plus. Applicants MUST have basic computer skills including Microsoft Word and navigating the internet. The ideal candidate would also have an understanding of Microsoft Excel and navigating social media. Candidate must be able to pass mandated Child Safety Clearances. Physical demands include a lot of standing, bending, crouching, squatting and twisting of upper body. Other physical requirements are carrying, pulling, holding, and reaching. Must be able to work some Saturdays and evenings each month and maintain a predictable work schedule.

Lobbies will be open from 9:30 am through 2:30 pm

Richard L. "Dick" Sassaman
Richard L. "Dick" Sassaman, 80, of 527 Sterling Run Rd., passed way in his sleep at home, on Saturday morning (May 9, 2020) after a lengthy illness.
A lifelong resident of Cameron County, he was born on July 12, 1939 & adopted by
Paul & Fern Sassaman.
Dick graduated from C.C.H.S. (Class of '57) & attended Lycoming college, culminating in his graduation from the N.Y.S. Ranger School at Cranberry Lake in 1963. He was employed by the Department of Environmental Resources, Bureau of Forestry (now DCNR) from 1961 until his retirement in 2004, continuing on as a sworn Forest Fire Warden until 2016 for a total of 55 years of dedicated service to the State of Pennsylvania.
Generations of Camp Owners and Non-Resident visitors knew Dick from their frequent (sometimes intrusive) visits to find out, "where the elk were", "where the turkey were roosting", "where the fish were biting", or, "if there were any rattlesnakes about"? All comers were greeted with his affable grin, gracious nature, sage advice, and offer of a cold beer.
Preceded in death by his parents & his brother Robert, Dick is survived by his wife Shirley (5/20/1994), his two sons Daryl (Woodbridge, VA) & Richard (Palm Coast, FL), & two grandchildren Dylan & Kayla.
Due to the present Covid-19 restrictions & his wishes, there will not be a visitation or a funeral service. There will be a celebration of his life at the May Hollow Sportsman's Association on a future date yet to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be made to the May Hollow Sportsman's Association at 189 May Hollow Road, Driftwood. PA 15832.

Diocese of Erie issued New protocols for
Covid 19 Yellow phase.
Effective Sunday May 10, 2020: Restore periods of confessions and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, with social distancing. All present are to wear masks, (excluding the priest when functioning on Altar).
At St. Mark, Holy hour will occur this Wednesday, May 13th at 6:00 pm.
Confessions will begin next Saturday, May 16th at 2:30 pm.
Suspension of all public masses continues during this time.
Elderly and those at risk are encouraged to stay home.
After May 20, 2020, decisions may be made for possible next steps to be taken.
William H. DeShong
William H. DeShong, age 66, of 283 Copenhaver Rd., Falls Creek, PA, died May 5, 2020, at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness. He was born May 7, 1953, in Renovo, PA, son of the late James E. and Margaret E. (Hess) DeShong. He married Lori Ann Young on September 3, 1980, she survives. He resided in Falls Creek for many years and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and NASCAR. He attended Punxsutawney High School. He had been employed by Northern Sun for 30 years as a Surface Miner.
He is survived by his wife Lori Ann DeShong of Falls Creek; 4 daughters: Carrie R. (Brian) Graham of Johnstown, PA, Heather L. (Will) Miner of Brookville, PA, Haley E. DeShong of Avonmore, PA, and Tia M. (Andrew) Urmann of Ridgway; 1 son William H. DeShong II of Bedford, PA; 5 grandchildren: Jacob, Quinn, Isla, Madison, and James; 1 great-grandson Asher; 2 sisters: Shirley Gilbert of Punxsutawney and Jan (Howard) McCowan of Punxsutawney; 2 brothers: Terry (Diane) DeShong of Punxsutawney and Randy DeShong of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers: James, John, and Paul DeShong and 1 sister Dora Craven.
Funeral and Committal Services for William H. DeShong will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials, if desired, can be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home.

We paired it with RVW's newest bottled red wine, Alicante Bouschet and were very pleased with how they complimented each other. Alicante has fruity notes that we could both taste right away, without the added sugar and sweetness of a fruit wine. Some PA Liquor Stores ReOpening -CC Using Curbside Pickup
Some PA Liquor Stores are reopening on Friday, May 8, but Cameron County will continue offering curbside pickup only until additional employees are hired to support retail operations in the near future. Cameron county is one of the 11 smaller stores that will continue doing business this way. The other counties are two in Clarion County, two in Forest County, two in Jefferson County, two in McKean County, one in Potter County, and one in Warren County.

As of Friday, May 8, the following Fine Wine & Good Spirits, in counties designated in the yellow phase
of COVID-19 mitigation efforts, will reopen to limited in-store public access.
The following mitigation efforts will be in place as these stores resume limited in-store public access:
• Stores will limit the number of customers in a store at a given time, allowing no more than
25 people (employees and customers) in any location and further restricting the number of
customers in smaller stores.
• The first hour each store is open each day will be reserved for customers at high risk for COVID-19,
including those 65 years of age and older. Voluntary compliance from all customers is encouraged
in the interest of protecting the health and safety of our most vulnerable community members.
• Customers and employees will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing, guided by
signage throughout the stores.
• Signage will also direct customers to follow one-way patterns to avoid cross-traffic and encourage
them to refrain from touching products unless they intend to buy them.
• Store employees will perform enhanced and frequent cleaning and disinfecting, and store hours
will be modified to ensure appropriate time for cleaning and restocking.
Prior to opening to the public, each location was professionally sanitized, and plexiglass was installed
at registers to provide a physical barrier between employees and customers at checkout. All Fine Wine
& Good Spirits employees are being provided masks, gloves and frequent opportunities to wash hands.
Each store reopening to limited public access will continue offering curbside pickup to the best of its
staff’s ability. All sales are final.
No returns will be accepted on in-store, curbside pickup or e-commerce
purchases until further notice

Emporium Water Company Planned Water Shut Off May 7
The Emporium Water Company would like to announce that tomorrow, May 7, 2020 there will be an interruption in water service on from the residence of Al Lyon up to the end of the line. This includes the Old West Creek Road, Sunny Lane, Pine Glenn, McCauley Road, Blackburn Road and the main highway from the police barracks on up. The shut off will occur at 9am and should be completed by afternoon. The Emporium Water Company will be repairing a leak on a valve on the main line.

Little Museum Not To Open Memorial Weekend
In light of the pandemic the Cameron County Historical Society Board of Directors have decided in the best interest of our volunteers and visitors that at this time we will not be opening the "Little Museum" in Sterling Run until we feel that the risk has lessened.
As a result the Historical Scavenger Hunt scheduled for July had to be cancelled too.
We are still planning on the Historic Hike and our Fall Membership Dinner both scheduled
in October.

Guy and Mary Felt Manor Mother's Day Update
Mothers Day is almost here and Felt Manor is providing ways you can celebrate during COVID-19 restrictions.
To protect the residents and staff, please send items in the following manner:
Boxes of candy or prepackaged items may be accepted in small quantities that can be stored in their room. Homemade food must be single-serve items in a disposable dish clearly labeled. We cannot store food in the refrigerator. Flowers or plants must be in a container that will not leak and staff can carry without touching the plant.
Please bring items to the Manor and ring the bell and a staff member will meet you and take your item to your loved one.
Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library Update
Beginning on Monday, May 11, the Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library book drop will be reopening and an additional box will be placed in the library foyer (inside the front door)
FOR RETURNS ONLY.
Library staff will spend the week of the 11th-15th processing returns and getting set up for a safe reopening with curbside services only.
More details regarding what library services will be available and the structure will be publicized next week as we are awaiting more detailed guidelines from the Office of Commonwealth Libraries.
We strongly encourage anyone who still has library items in their homes from before we closed to drop them off to the library during this time. As previously noted, we have extended all of the due dates, so no one needs to worry about late fees.
The library building will continue to be closed to the public for the time being, so there will be no restroom or computer access available.

Cameron County Food Pantry May Distribution Notice
For Immediate Notice
Due to the corona virus outbreak, and operating with concern for the health of our clients, the Cameron County Food Pantry will be operating on the following schedule. The food distribution scheduled for May 27, 2020 at 1pm will be accomplished as follows.
If you are unemployed or have had a reduction in work hours due to the corona virus, you are eligible for this food distribution. Please call Dave Malize at 814-486-1161 Ext 269 and pre-register.
Clients from the Emporium Arms and Maple Street Apartments will receive food delivered Tuesday, May 26th at 10:00 am.
On Wednesday, May 27th, the regular Food Pantry distribution will be at the usual 1:00 pm time on Fourth Street in front of Northern Tier Community Action.
South Poplar Street will be closed to Food Pantry vehicular traffic. Clients with cars are asked to stage on Fourth Street in the spaces available between Vine Street and Poplar Street. You will be directed when to pull forward to the space in designated front of Northern Tier to receive your box. Please be patient while we try to get everyone through as quickly as possible. A volunteer will take your name and another will place your box(S) in your car (do not get out of your car) and you can then pull out when you can do so safely, allowing the next vehicle to move up. If you are not able to get in line with your car, please just drive around the block and come back.
PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK TRAFFIC ON FOURTH STREET!
If you normally walk to the Food Pantry, you will also get your food box on Fourth Street. We will have a specific walk-up location for you to be served. Please wait there to be served and keep two arms lengths distance from others who may be in line for distribution.
If you are sick or have a health issue that prevents you from coming out, or if you have questions, please call Dave Malize at 814-486-1161 Ext 269 and we will arrange to get your food to you. Please do not come out if you are sick.
Your cooperation is expected. Please be patient during this process. We will get through this by working together.
PLEASE NOTE: Esther’s Place behind the Emporium First United Methodist Church continues to do a weekly distribution each Tuesday from 1:00pm to 4:00 pm.

Elk Country Visitor Center Update
Elk Country Visitor Center Update
May 8th we will reopen the "Grounds only" of the Elk Country Visitor Center.
The Center itself will not be open except for access to the restrooms.
We will have a curbside pick up tent available for sales.
Hours of operation beginning May 8 through the end of May:
Wednesday through Sundays 8am-8pm
Closed Monday and Tuesday
We will announce teared opening of the Center soon.
