Susan C. Lyon

Susan C. Lyon, 77, of Gardeau, passed away peacefully at Guy & Mary Felt Manor in Emporium on Tuesday evening, August 4, 2026, following a brief illness.

Born on January 3, 1949, in St. Marys, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Elizabeth Connor Swartwood. On June 15, 1968, in the First United Methodist Church in Emporium, she married Paul Lyon, who survives.

Susan was a graduate of Cameron County High School. She was employed for a short time at Sylvania before beginning a career in housekeeping at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, where she worked faithfully for many years.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of her community, Susan embraced the life of a farmer's wife with grace, dedication, and unwavering love for her family. She found great joy in supporting the family farm and creating a warm and welcoming home where family gatherings and treasured memories were made.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. Susan was an active member of Endless Mountains Methodist Church, where she faithfully served as church custodian and taught Sunday School for many years, touching the lives of countless children with her kindness and steadfast faith.

Susan was also a dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Emporium Chapter #101, where she served as Past Worthy Matron. She generously gave her time as a member of the Cameron County Fair Board of Directors, reflecting her love for agriculture and the local community.

She and Paul especially enjoyed traveling together to Lancaster County to attend productions at the Sight & Sound Theatre. Above all else, Susan treasured time spent with her family. Nothing brought her greater happiness than watching her children and grandchildren grow, and she cherished every opportunity to be with them.

In addition to her loving husband of 58 years, Paul Lyon, she is survived by four children: Lori Kocholek (Dennis) of Hermitage; Scott Lyon (Susan) of Emporium; Heather Hallowell (Matt) of Emporium; and Holly Clark (Jessie) of Cranberry Township. She is also survived by seven beloved grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a brother, David Swartwood (Patricia); along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Elizabeth Connor Swartwood, and a daughter, Christine Medley.

A funeral service will be held at Endless Mountains Methodist Church, 306 S. Spruce Street, Emporium, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Andrew P. Spore, Pastor, officiating.

Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00 until 10:45 AM, prior to the service.

Burial will follow in Portage Township Cemetery, Gardeau.
