Cameron County Farmer's Market Intoduces D's Queen Bees!

 Cameron County Farmer's Market

The next vendors to sign on for this year’s market season are returning favorites from last year, Dylan & Ashley Major with D's Queen Bees!

Dylan & Ashley are the proud owners of a very busy apiary in Port Allegany that they have been running for the past 8 years. They went into this last winter with about 166 hives, each housing an average of 60,000 bees. If you do the math that’s close to 10 million bees producing delicious honey, wow! There is a lot of work and many skills involved in running an apiary of this size so they divide and conquer, with Dylan taking care of the bees and bottling the honey while Ashley makes a variety of beeswax products.

For those of you that enjoyed shopping at their stall last summer, you will be excited to know that they will be offering not only the same selection of spiced honeys, lip balms, soaps and wax melts that they had last year but they will also have a new range of products. Their Cinnamon Flavored Creamed Honey sounds especially tasty, as does the Lemon and Cinnamon Honey Candy. If you like a bit of spice in your honey try the Reaper Honey or the Hot Garlic Honey (my favorite!). They will also be offering a new Beeswax & Honey Salve as well as a Wood Polish.

If you’re looking for something delicious to eat or something all natural to add to your beauty routine they have you covered!

And if you just can’t wait until our market season starts up again in May then head over to Port Allegany and you can find their products for sale in the local Shop ’n Save as well as the Port Allegany Pharmacy. If you’re near Smethport you can pop into Costas Supermarket and in Portville, NY you will find them in For Crafts Sake.

We are thrilled to welcome Dylan and Ashley back to the market again this year! If you are also interested in joining our wonderful team of vendors then click on the link below to access our application form.

We are looking for growers, bakers, artisans and producers of any home-grown or home-made products!

Larry Lee von Arx

Larry Lee von Arx, age 75, of Sears Hollow, Austin, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on the morning of Wednesday, March 1, 2023. He was born in Ridgway on May 11, 1947, a son of the late Glen “Jack” and Ida (Bevins) von Arx. On May 19, 1973, he married Mary E. Belsole, who survives.

Larry followed many varying career paths throughout his life. He was a certified respiratory therapy technician, earned an associate’s degree in paralegal studies, was a certified private investigator, attended the Lincoln Chiropractic College, and worked at Pennsylvania Pressed Metals, where he served as a final inspector for many years. He was active in the Saint Mark Folk Group and participated in the Parade of Stars.

Larry had a love for music and passion for playing the guitar dating back to his high school days. His first band was named the Rogue's. They played at the American folk festival near Philadelphia and many famous coffee shops there in the 1960s. His last band "Sailcat" produced two albums (Looney 2-NS and Arm and Axe - Blister Power) all recorded and mixed at Blue Shed Studios. He played the guitar and taught music his entire life.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by his children: Dawn, David, Christian, Larry, Chantelle, Susan, Laura, and Steven; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, John von Arx.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Ida (Bevins) von Arx.

There will be no visitation. Services will be held privately for the family. Burial will be in Portage Cemetery in Gardeau.

If desired, memorials may be made to the Cameron County School District Band Boosters, 427 Woodland Avenue, Emporium, PA 15834.

Online condolences can be placed at www.BarnettFuneralHome.net.

FOX 8 ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF NEWS MAGAZINE SHOW

JOHNSTOWN – FOX 8 is excited to announce the launching of Fox 8 News Now, a half-hour news and lifestyle show that will feature local stories that matter to viewers and highlight events and positive happenings in West-Central Pennsylvania.

“Fox 8 News Now will complete our 10:35 PM programming on FOX 8, following FOX 8 News at Ten Monday through Thursday,” said station manager, Jim Pastore. “It will complement our local sports show, The Zone with Referee Rich, that airs Friday nights at 10:35 PM.”

Fox 8 News Now will also air on FOX 8 at noon Monday through Thursday, with The Zone airing on Fridays in the time slot, offering a refreshing alternative to hard news at noon.

Pastore said each episode of Fox 8 News Now will provide viewers with an inside look of local happenings, businesses, and people around the Alleghenies with popular, local personality KC O’Day serving as the host.

“We are extremely excited to have KC O’Day back as the host of Fox 8 News Now,” Pastore enthused. “She’s one of the most recognizable personalities in Central Pennsylvania.”

Fox 8 News Now will be produced and edited by Tom Concannon. The show will debut with four episodes featuring the station’s Uncork the Alleghenies event, now in its 12th year, in early March before becoming a regular in the FOX 8 programming on March 27.

“I'm so excited to help showcase our local talent, civic organizations and businesses,” said O’Day. “We live in a gem of a community, with so much diversity and creativity! I'm proud to say this is my home, I grew up here. And the opportunity to share people's stories and experiences on FOX 8 News Now is a dream come true!”
