Utility Relocation Work on Route 120 in Emporium Starts April 6

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that utility relocation work on a highway reconstruction project along Route 120 in Emporium Borough and Shippen Township will start on Monday, April 6. This relocation work is part of a project that will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of approximately three-quarters of a mile of roadway between Spruce Street in Emporium Borough and Route 155 in Shippen Township.

Starting April 6, the contractor will begin the utility line relocation portion of this project. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flaggers in the roadway providing traffic control. PennDOT expects this work to occur primarily between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday but notes that start and end times may vary. It urges drivers to build extra time into their commutes or consider alternate routes.

Utility relocation work is expected to continue into late July. Upon completion, the contractor will begin highway reconstruction work. PennDOT will provide updates on traffic impacts and the construction schedule as work progresses.

Work for this contract includes utility line relocation, drainage improvements, paving, guide rail and sidewalk installation, line painting and miscellaneous construction. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc., of State College, PA, is the contractor for this $8.8 million project. PennDOT anticipates work on this project to carry over into the 2027 construction season.
