Marilyn “June” Ballou Shoup, age 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Concordia at Bethlen. June was the daughter of the late Judson and Helen (Burk) Ballou. She was born on November 6, 1928, in Peoria, IL. She was a 1946 graduate of Emporium High School. It was there that she met the love of her life, James “Jim” Shoup. The two enjoyed 71 years of marriage together before Jim’s passing in 2020- welcoming 2 children, 5 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

After high school, June attended school in Pittsbugh, PA to become a beautician- a job she enjoyed until staying home to raise her children. She and Jim built a beautiful life together in Emporium, PA where they raised Dennis and Mary. They were active members of 4-H as well as the Bucktailers Campers and Hikers. June’s true passion was her work with the local chapter of the Eastern Star, where she was a Past Worthy Matron.

In addition to her parents and husband, June is preceded in death by her sister, Norma Jean Ballou.

She is survived by her children: son Dennis (Rebecca) Shoup of Atlanta, GA, and daughter Mary (David) Maxwell of Coraopolis, PA, and grandchildren: Robbie (Tracie) Graham with son Bennett and daughter Zodie, Dyanna (Andrew) McCown with daughter Hadley and son Harrison, Leah (David) Macias with daughters Isabel and Emerson and son Maxwell, Gregory (Samantha) Maxwell with daughter Violet, and Claire (Dominic) Scalise with daughter Liliana.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday (April 4, 2026), at Endless Mountains Methodist Church, 306 S. Spruce St., Emporium at 11:00 am. There will be a visitation from 10:00-10:45 am with an Eastern Star service to immediately follow. June will be laid to rest alongside Jim at Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA following the service.

In her final years, June was lovingly cared for by the staff at Concordia at Bethlen in Ligonier, PA. Her family is forever grateful for their kindness and compassion over the last 8 years, not only for her but her late husband Jim as well. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Concordia at Bethlen, 66 Carey School Rd, Ligonier PA, 15658 in her memory to continue their mission to care for others.
