Proposed PA Wilds Megaloop

Explore Pennsylvania with Jeff Mitchell
Here's a map of the route of the proposed PA Wilds Megaloop, a 300+ mile hiking loop.
There will be some changes as new trails are built and road walks are reduced.
This loop has vistas, waterfalls, meadows, rock formations, and wild elk.
There are gorges, glens, scenic streams, isolation, and great camping.
It connects several state parks, natural, and wild areas, and it connects eight state forest hiking trails.
This loop also passes through several scenic towns and villages, bringing the potential of tourism dollars. @keystonetrails is helping to make this loop a reality.

Starting bottom left or southwest Clearfield, Centre, Clinton, Lycoming, likely a bit of Tioga, Potter, Cameron, Elk.
Some landmarks on the trail will be, Hyner view, Black Forest trail, Slate run, Golden eagle trail, Blackwell, Bid state trail, West rim trail, Gaines, Galeton, Lyman Run State Park, Weather branch trail, Susquehannock Trail, Hammersley Wild Area, Cross Fork, Kettle Creek State Park, Sinnemahoning, Quehanna Wild Area, Karthaus, Chuck Keiper Trail.

I am the author of "Hiking the Endless Mountains" "Backpacking Pennsylvania" "Paddling Pennsylvania." My next book, "Lessons Beyond the Horizon" will be published this year.
Join me as I explore the natural beauty of Pennsylvania.

Cameron County Needs Volunteers

Cameron County Needs Volunteers
Cameron County Chamber of Commerce hopes a volunteer recruitment project will aid the more than 40 organizations in the county. The chamber has asked those organizations to complete a survey which will then be utilized to create a booklet. That booklet will then be used at formal recruitment events. “Numerous residents are willing to volunteer, but may not know of the opportunities,” says Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Solak.
This is the first step of a larger project, which will then involve coordinating volunteers to tackle projects around the county. They could include landscaping at buildings, painting etc. Solak says the chamber is duplicating a project underway in Kane. If any organization has not received the survey, members are asked to contact the chamber. The deadline for returning the survey is November 1.

All Fired Up Kickin Ash Winners

All Fired Up Kickin Ash Winners
Cameron County Chamber of Commerce All Fired Up Kickin Ash BBQ filled downtown Saturday with smoke and foodies. Hungry folks purchasing ribs, pulled pork, turkey legs, brisket and even desserts that were “smoked”.

The big winner was locally owned Smitty’s Eat N Shack. Kevin Smith was the judges favorite in wings, mystery meat and pulled pork. The mystery meat selected by the event sponsor Emporium Food Market was tripe. Smitty’s Eat N Shack also took home people’s choice. Bobby Que’s from Emporium took home best sauce, and dessert which had the town talking. The dessert featured smoked caramelized bananas in pudding. Mort’s Meat Mafia from Gallitzin placed first in turkey and brisket. Jason’s Smokin from Brockway took home best ribs trophy. Roulette team 242 BBQ took home best sides which was mac n cheese.

Executive Director of the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce, Tina Solak says the event shows off the ‘smokin’ skills of the PA Wilds while serving as a fundraiser for local organizations. Nam Knights of America Allegheny Mountain Chapter, and Christabelle Club mingled with foodies. “The chamber strives to use local businesses when hosting events. The t-shirts were designed and printed by Art n Ink”.

Next year will see some changes as the event will be the final contest in a PA Wilds BBQ Circuit and competitors will accumulate points, with the highest point total taking home $300 in cash. BBQ lovers are encouraged to follow PA Wilds BBQ Circuit Facebook page. All Fired Up Kickin Ash is always held the fourth Saturday of September.

NPRC Recipient of National Workforce Development & Innovation Awar

NPRC Recipient of National Workforce Development & Innovation Award

WARREN, Pa. - Northern Pennsylvania Regional College (NPRC) was named the recipient of the Rural Community College Alliance (RCCA) Workforce Development & Innovation Award. The award was presented to Adam Johnson, NPRC’s Vice President of Workforce Development at the RCCA’s 2025 Annual Conference held September 17 to 19 at East Central College in Union, Missouri.

The Rural Community College Alliance is based in Horntown, Oklahoma, and helps member institutions serve the 89.3 million people who live in rural America. This organization promotes a more economically, culturally, and civically vibrant rural America through advocacy, convening, leveraging resources, and sharing innovative practices, policies, and research. RCCA welcomes institutions from across the country, and NPRC’s President, Susie Snelick, is an active participant in their initiatives.

Through innovative partnerships with local agencies and a commitment to accessible, affordable education, NPRC recently completed a targeted EMT training program designed to address regional workforce shortages. The program provided in-person EMT training to NPRC’s 10 county service region in northwestern and northcentral Pennsylvania. The College’s efforts are not only filling vital roles but also strengthening the resilience of rural emergency services and creating career pathways in underserved areas.

This recognition highlights NPRC’s efforts to address critical rural healthcare needs through targeted EMT training initiatives. The program offered low-cost or free-of-charge emergency medical services courses thanks to the generosity of local municipalities, public safety professionals, and organizations around the region. NPRC’s commitment to accessible, affordable, and community-focused workforce training was noted by RCCA ‘as a powerful model for rural-serving institutions nationwide.’

NPRC enabled 33 rural community members to become nationally certified EMTs, with more than 20 additional certifications possible as students who successfully completed the program have up to two years to test for their national certification. NPRC’s Workforce Development division, specifically the public safety professionals within this area of the College, played a vital role in achieving this recognition.

After receiving the award, Vice President of Workforce Development Adam Johnson stated, “I was incredibly proud to accept the Regional Community College Alliance Innovation in Workforce Award on behalf of NPRC. This recognition is a testament to the incredible dedication, creativity, and collaboration of the entire team who made this vision a reality.”

Stay tuned for upcoming announcements about new emergency medical services class dates around the region.

James Guisto Real Estate

James Guisto Real Estate
🍂 🏡 This fall is shaping up to be the most buyer-friendly season we’ve seen in a long time. Here’s why:
🏘️ More Homes to Choose From
Housing supply is the highest it’s been since before the pandemic, meaning you have more options and less pressure to make a split-second decision
. 📉 Less Competition, More Negotiation Power
We’re finally seeing a shift in the market. Sellers who priced high are coming back to reality — and that gives us room to negotiate things like price, closing costs, or even repairs.
💸 Some Prices Are Dropping
While home prices are still high overall, growth is slowing. In many areas, prices are falling year over year — especially on homes that have been sitting on the market for a while. That could mean a better deal for you.
📦 Moving Costs May Be Lower, Too
Fall moves tend to be less expensive than summer — and easier to schedule.
🙋‍♀️ As an Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR®), I help you make smart, confident purchase decisions. If you’re thinking about buying, now’s the time to explore your options.

New Gas Station Plans to Open by Mid-October

by WJAC staff/Justin TrentThu, September 25th 2025 at 5:26 PM
CAMERON COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A Cameron County borough will soon have another option for fuel. Officials say a Marathon Petroleum gas station will be located at the former Sheetz building in Emporium.  Carroll Motor Fuel --- a Maryland-based fuel distributor --- will operate under the "Marathon" brand. Borough manager Don Reed says it's expected to mirror Sheetz -- offering fast food, snacks, and fuel.  He says the company plans to open the new gas station by mid-October. “This is going to be huge, especially for people like police departments and emergency services that are around 24 hours a day, and it ends up being a late night for them, there's going to be a place open up. And that alone, it's really good news for us." This would mark the fourth gas station in Emporium, alongside the Nittany Minit Mart.

If you haven't followed this new CC Site, please do!
Created by local resident Emily Costanzo, this sites mission in to reach as many people as possible & let them know what Cameron County businesses have to offer! We are trying to reach as many potential customers and visitors to our area as possible. Please share this group with a friend, even if they live elsewhere. We would love to have more visitors in CamCo and even if they don't stop by, many of our artisans will ship Business owners - don't forget that you are able to join and post in this group using your business page.
