The wilds as we think of them today is an amazing tourist attraction to many. Beyond the stunning scenery of sixteen thousand miles of streams and river, lies important history of early America. But over 200 years ago it was anything but. Meyers a descendent of a Mayflower passenger and seventh generation in her family to live in the Wilds, unveils accounts and events of the time.

Her book features the famous Indian Chief, Cornplanter, who following the American Revolution, sought to understand white society. During this time a young George Washington traversed the expanse, cutting his teeth as a military leader. Violence between Native Americans and colonists in the territory, left its bloody mark, from the Penn's Creek Massacre to the Great Cove Massacre. After the American revolution, early settler families forged roots through the wilderness, built communities and developed the region into a patchwork of frontier towns.

The novel unveils newspaper accounts and events of the time, that sheds light on colonial government with the Native Americans on the 40-year conflict between these groups.
