Route 46 Bridge Replacement in Shippen Township Starts Monday

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a bridge replacement project along Route 46 in Shippen Township, Cameron County, is set to get underway on Monday, May 11. This project will replace a deteriorating structure built in 1930 that spans Dodge Hollow, improving ride quality over the bridge and improving its overall condition rating.

Starting Monday, the contractor will begin mobilizing equipment and installing traffic control measures. Drivers should expect to encounter flaggers in the roadway providing traffic control during these preliminary stages.

Once traffic control devices are installed, the contractor will begin work on a temporary two-lane roadway that will carry traffic around the construction site for the remainder of the project’s duration. PennDOT anticipates completion in late October, but all construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Work scheduled under this contract includes removal of the existing bridge, construction of its replacement box culvert, approach paving, guide rail upgrades, line painting, and miscellaneous construction. Nestlerode Contracting of Lock Haven, PA, is the contractor on this $1.1 million project.

Drivers can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,200 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
