James M. “Jim” Martin, 85, of Emporium, PA passed away unexpectedly at Penn Highlands DuBois on Thursday afternoon (May 21, 2026) following a medical procedure.
He was born August 28, 1940 in Nanty-Glo, PA, a son of the late James W. and Sylvia Grazier Martin. On November 23, 1963 in Erie, PA, he married the late Judith C. (Wood) Martin.
Jim was born again in July of 1954 and remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life.
Following graduation, Jim entered the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country for four years. He worked for many years as a machinist throughout western Pennsylvania and later retired from the Pennsylvania State Parks, where he enjoyed his last several working years.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and especially cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren..
Jim is survived by seven children (two foster): son, James (Suzzanne) Martin and their children Katherine and Sarah Martin; son, Jody (Jennifer) Martin and their children Jeanette (Joshua) Rowley, Julia (Lucas) Morian, and Jaclyn Martin; son, Jeffrey Martin and his children Sean O'Donnell, Noah Martin, Isaac Martin, and Grace (Brent) Ewell; son, Jack (Lisa) Martin and their children Kayla (Kyle) Nielsen and Anna (Iolaus) Trowbridge; and son, Jay (Tara) Martin and their children Joseph Martin and Laurel (David) Rogers, son Leroy Sheetz (Shelly) and their children Kaitlyn Sheetz and Shyann Sheetz, daughter Bernice Baker and her children Jonathan Baker, Jordan (Megan) Baker and daughter Jessica (Jason) Venable as well as 24 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Jerry Martin, and two sisters, Eleanor Rose and Judy Long.
The family will receive friends at the Emporium Christian & Missionary Alliance church on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 11:50 AM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM with Rev. Erik Ferguson, Pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, officiating.
Burial will be private with family only in the Newton Cemetery. Military service will be held with Cameron County Memorial Detail.
