James W. Moore, Sr., 89, of Emporium, PA formerly of Renovo, PA, passed away at Penn Highlands DuBois on Friday morning (May 8, 2026) following a brief illness.
He was born May 27, 1936, in Renovo, a son of the late James and Daisy Emery Moore. On December 7, 1956, in Renovo, he married Dorothy (Pelkey) Moore, who survives. Together they shared more than 69 loving years of marriage.
Jim was a graduate of Renovo High School and enlisted in the US Air Force where he proudly served for a 4 years. He earned an associate degree in electrical studies from Triangle Tech. He worked for over 21 years at PA Pressed Metals and later served for 21 years with the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Cameron County Vets Club, and the Bucktail Rod & Gun Club. Jim and his wife Dorothy enjoyed fishing together on their boat. He enjoyed tying fishing flies, a hobby he began at the age of ten and continued well into his late seventies. Jim also liked to hunt. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
In addition to his loving wife, Dorothy Moore, he is survived by seven children: James W. Moore, Jr. (Tina) of Emporium; Kim Moate of Pittsburgh; Jeffrey Moore (Sharon) of St. Marys; Timothy Moore (Missy) of St. Marys; Joanna Moore of Pittsburgh; and Ronald Moore of Emporium; a son, Scott Moore of Palm Springs, California; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Keith Tripp of Renovo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard “Dick” Moore; and a sister, Carol Tripp.
There will be no visitation. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be in Portage Township Cemetery.
