Cameron County Conservation District
Last Friday May 8th the 3rd grade students from Woodland Elementary School released their raised fingerling trout into the Cowley Run stream.
The Trout in the Classroom program is made possible by a partnership between the PA Fish and Boat Commission and the PA Council of Trout Unlimited.
Students spent the school year learning about cold water education with the Cameron County Conservation District while raising their trout from egg to fingerling.
After releasing their fingerlings, the students spent the day learning about: The Different Hardwoods in PA, Macros, Animals found in Sizerville, Beaver, and Animal Survival all on a rotation schedule. Presenting on the day were: Nancy McCloskey from Allegheny Hardwoods Utilization Group, Taylor Gillette from Cameron County Outdoor Activities, Alyson Rotello from Sizerville State Park, Natalie Aiello from PSU Extension, and Jon Marc Burdick from the Cameron County Conservation District. The students also had a question and answer session with PA Game Commission's Officer Caleb Reider, a former student at Cameron County School District who also experienced the Trout in the Classroom program.
