Emporium Rotary Club
This week our guest speaker was Rotarian and Historian John Kautz.
John gave an impressive talk on how Cameron County evolved through the years.
In the early days, due to transportation issues, the lumber business began sparsely and the use of the river was the only means of transportation; but once the railway system came through, the lumber business took off. Then came the dynamite business, a dangerous one, which helped with the build of the Panama Canal. Sylvania and their bulbs & tubes flourished, and then the powdered metal business began which became a top supplier to many throughout the area and beyond.
Everything you would want to know about Cameron County and its past residents, you can find it all at the Cameron County Historical Society in downtown Emporium and the Little Museum in Sterling Run.
