Edna Murray Schager

Edna Murray Schager died peacefully at the Guy & Mary Felt Manor on Tuesday afternoon June 2, 2020. She was born on September 8, 1925 in Emporium, PA, the daughter of John and Marian Judd Murray. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Philip Schager, a sister Alice Stephenson, a brother John Judd Murray and a granddaughter, Kira Schager.

She is survived by a twin sister, Edith Walker Isacke, Gaithersburg, MD; a brother James Murray, Emporium; and seven children: Glenn Schager, Frederick, CO; Judd Schager, (Gini) Emporium; Jane Regelman, (Gary) Milton, PA; Rita Simon, (Mike) West Seneca, NY; Frank Schager, (Lori) Colorado Springs, CO, Ann Brown, (Warren) Annapolis, MD, Paul Schager, (Jane) DeWitt, MI. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Edna was a life-long resident of Emporium. She graduated from Emporium High School in 1943 and received a BA degree at Penn State University in 1948. She played oboe in the college orchestra and she and her sister were among the first women to be included in the Penn State Blue Band when many of the male band members were in the service in WWII. In 2011 they were honored at a Penn State Homecoming parade and were asked to speak to students at the Pep Rally following the parade. From 1943 to 1944 and during college summer vacations she was employed as a key punch operator in the Accounting Department at Sylvania. In 1950, she married her hometown sweetheart, Philip Schager. She was a devoted member of St Mark Catholic Church, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served on the Board of Directors of the Guy and Mary Felt Manor.

She will be remembered fondly for her cheerful positive attitude and loving devotion to her family. All will remember the gathering of friends and family on her front porch and the smell of her raisin filled cookies. She loved coffee hour with dear friends, baking, reading and playing bridge.

A Private Mass of Christian Burial was held at the convenience of the family.
