THE GHOST WALK

THE GHOST WALK - The Legacy Behind Cameron County's Civilian Conservation Corp Camps

Presented by The Cameron County Historical Society Pre-orders are being accepted for a donation of $20 +$5 if you need it shipped.

Roosevelt's Tree Army "The Ghost Walk" focuses on the thousands of starving young men who joined the Civilian Conservation Corp who came to Cameron County from the cities of Pennsylvania during the depression to help feed their families. Many were unskilled with limited education many didn't even know how to read or write.

Countless photos are included of the men planting hundreds of thousands of trees to restore our forests that had been desecrated by the lumber barons of past.

They surveyed and built many of our forestry roads, built fire towers, created the Sizerville Park Recreation Area, they even built a ferry after the 1936 flood to perform flood relief in nearby communities.

Our "first telephone lines" in the county were installed by the camps opening communications for us to the world. The Corp created MEN who were able to send home money to their starving families, gain multiple skill sets, education and most of all regain their dignity. Many who married and stayed here afterwards. Discover who they were.

Checks can be made out to the Cameron County Historical Society and sent to PO Box 433; Emporium, PA 15834.
