Uptown Girls Grille Dining Update

Uptown Girls Grille
· This is one of the hardest posts I’ve had to write so far in our first year of being in business and I’m already dreading all of the negative and degrading comments we are going to get because of our decision, but right now we really have no other choice.
Because of our heater not being able to be fixed, our dining room will be closed for dining in until further notice and we are unfortunately going to be offering take out orders and grab and go only for the next week or two, until our new system is put in.
Thank you to everyone who has still ordered takeout these past two days, we appreciate you all more than you will ever know!

An electrical crew has been onsite for over 3 hours where the old West Creek Road intersects with Rt 120 going into Emporium.  At 19 degrees, it sure is a cold night for them to be out. Hoping they get this issue resolved soon.

He was born May 29, 1957, in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, a son of Diane Sowers of Emporium and the late George C. Sowers, and birth mother Barbara Christman. On December 18, 1976, at Rich Valley Wesleyan Church in Emporium, Ted married the love of his life, Penny Barker, who survives.

Ted was committed to serving his community, beginning at a young age when he became a firefighter at just 16 years old. He went on to serve his community in many capacities over the years, including as a humane officer, where his deep compassion for and advocacy on behalf of animals were evident. Ted also served as an animal control officer and ordinance enforcement officer. He was a proud member of the Emporium Rotary Club and a retired president of the Cameron County SPCA. In addition, he served as chairman of the GOP and remained actively involved in numerous local boards and committees.

Known for his kindness, dedication, and genuine love of service, Ted consistently gave his time and energy to making a difference in the lives of others. Outside of his community involvement, he found joy in thrifting with his wife and children, taking Jeep rides, collecting memorabilia, hunting and fishing, socializing with friends, attending the annual trip to Watkins Glen for the NASCAR race, and always staying busy working on something. Above all else, Ted cherished time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren, who were truly his greatest happiness.

In addition to his mother and his wife, Penny, he is survived by three children: Bradley Sowers (Kristy) of DuBois; Mandy Marconi (DJ) of St. Marys; and Jonathan Sowers of Emporium.  Our official release is below!

Plans are underway for a new Nittany MinitMart location in Emporium, on the site previously occupied by GKN Sinter Metals, LLC (formerly known as GKN Plant 1) located at 15420 Route 120 Emporium. Nittany MinitMart and Potter Lands, LLC are currently in the early stages of design and development, with Nittany MinitMart employees and local officials working through the due diligence and permitting processes.

Nittany MinitMart recognizes the importance of collaboration and says they are thankful for the support received from local and county governments. Additionally, the positive reception from the Emporium community has been instrumental in advancing plans for the new store.

Nittany MinitMart, a well-known regional convenience store chain with 28 locations throughout Pennsylvania, has expressed appreciation for the warm reception it has received from the Emporium community.

The new store, which will be open 24/7, is expected to bring added convenience to Emporium residents. Nittany MinitMart is well known for offering a wide range of services, including fuel and fresh food options, and is expected to make a significant impact once it officially opens its doors.

Along with their food menu and convenience options, Nittany MinitMart is known for giving back to the communities surrounding their stores. According to their mobile app, in 2023, the State College-based business donated over $200,000 to local nonprofits, including volunteer fire companies, animal shelters, and school and youth sports programs.

Potter Lands, LLC is a Potter County-based commercial real estate developer co-founded by Jason Holmberg and Todd Brown that specializes in the revitalization of underutilized commercial buildings and properties. “We are pleased and very excited to work with Nittany MinitMart on this significant development that will have a major positive impact on Cameron County in terms of employment and economic vitality,” said Todd Brown. “In addition, we are grateful to Nittany MinitMart for their future investment in the Emporium community, as well as our appreciation to Cameron County Commissioners, Cliff Clark, Director of Cameron County Industrial Development Authority, and Shippen Township officials as we work together to build Nittany MinitMart's newest location.”

Further details about the store’s design, services, and timeline will be determined once the planning phase has been completed.

🚨 BREAKING: Cameron County ADOPTS Wind Turbine Ordinance 🚨
This is a great day for Cameron County — and for McKean County as well.

We have now received confirmation from the Cameron County Courthouse that the Cameron County Commissioners voted today to adopt their Wind Turbine Ordinance.
Why this matters locally:
Black Cherry Wind leases extend into Cameron County.
What Cameron County does directly affects what can and cannot happen on shared ridgelines, watersheds, wildlife corridors, and viewsheds that impact our communities here in McKean County.
This ordinance represents Cameron County stepping up to protect:
• Public health and safety
• Property owners and non-participating landowners
• Wildlife, groundwater, and scenic resources
 • The long-term character of the PA Wilds
📌 Notably: We are told by an attendee that Swift Current Energy did NOT attend this meeting.

At a meeting where rules governing industrial wind development were being finalized — rules that directly affect Swift Current Energy’s Black Cherry Wind Project — the developer was reportedly absent.

 Communities showed up.
 County officials showed up.
 The developer did not.
That absence speaks volumes.

This ordinance adoption follows a growing pattern we are seeing across the region:
• Developers are being challenged instead of accommodated
• Claims are being scrutinized instead of accepted at face value
 • Local governments are asserting their authority to protect residents

Cameron County’s action strengthens the regional pushback against careless, poorly vetted, and community-disruptive wind development.

We applaud the Cameron County Commissioners and residents who stayed engaged through this process. Their decision helps protect their county — and ours.
More to come once official minutes are released.
For now, this is a moment worth recognizing and sharing.
✅ Momentum matters.
✅ Local control matters.
✅ Community engagement works.
 Please share.
The Wind Turbine Ordinance can be found on this site

2026 A Christmas Time Recommendations

A Christmas Time - Emporium, PA
I am seeking your recommendations, innovative ideas, and constructive critiques to enhance next year's Christmas Time venue at A Christmas Time - Emporium, PA
Considering the constraints of a single staff member and no additional support (it’s just me 😂)
Although foot traffic was lower this year, the Elf Storytime event was exceptionally well-received, attracting a larger participation than ever before.
Given the abundance of various events, Santa showings, and other activities in the area, I am contemplating limiting Santa Saturdays to a single day to optimize impact.
Your input would be invaluable in shaping a successful and stress-free event for the community, which is offered free of charge. Comment away on this FB page.

PA Weather Plus, LLC Friday Weather Report

** FINAL CALL SNOW / ICE FORECAST **
Apologizes for the close timing between the second call & final forecast, but this is what I can do best with the storm expected to arrive by late Friday morning.
What has changed?
Heavier icing is now expected farther into the Allegheny Plateau.
Heavy snowfall axis shifting south after initializing latest observations, leaning toward a snowier scenario within gradient areas.
I have *ALL* of the details lined out in the blog post, including timing and travel impacts.
READ MORE HERE: https://paweatherplus.com/boxing-day-pennsylvania-winter.../
Please, please make correct decisions tomorrow and do not travel during the midst of the storm.
It is better to be safe than sorry with the expectation of snow, sleet, and freezing rain!
